I am an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and trained Educator on topics of birth, newborn care, feeding, and parenting. The phrase “there are many right ways” is something that I say a lot when describing the nuance of parenting. Every kid is different. What works for one family is different than what works for another. These differences in parenting philosophies are fasc

inating, especially how different cultures parent, but what I’m most interested in is learning about parenting in accordance with our unique biological truths and needs. All the stuff that makes us human. I love supporting families and facilitating conversation and commaderie, not as a perfect over-achieving, *breast is best* ‘expert,’ but as someone with a wealth of knowledge in the field who is in the thick of it too. I’m a huge advocate for ‘good enough’ parenting. The conversation that I keep initiating is that to raise a healthy social human, it takes a village. In our time here in America, we’re trying to parent without the village, and it’s really freaking hard. Support is essential. I read this to my daughter the other night, lots of big feelings, all kinds of happiness and confusion as to where she now sits, no longer the youngest. We’re all just puzzle pieces rearranging ourselves into this new picture. We miss each other a bit right now, and I’m not as available, but I’m trying. Soon enough they’ll be running around together and these days that feel hour by hour will be something I close my eyes and smile about in years to come.
They never stop being our babies."
