Fashion Association Denver

Fashion Association Denver OUR MISSION STATEMENT: :To promote Denver's fashion professionals and organizations. Do you know the history of FAD?

A little over 3 years ago, designer Mona Lucero and Kathy Bacon, who is the moderator for Pay it Forward and Fashion Forward Radio, approached the City of Denver Arts and Venues. They wanted to see if they could get their support in starting a Fashion Association. They found several marketing and organizational professionals to help them. They were Stephanie Blake of Blake Communications, a Denver

marketing firm and Malcolm Daly, who focuses on helping beginning organizations find their wings. With Stephanie’s help, they put together a survey that was sent out to Denver industry professionals to get their feedback on what they wanted in a fashion association, or if they wanted a fashion association. In addition, they hosted general meetings with many attendees, including people from the Mayor’s Office, Cherry Creek Arts Festival and other esteemed designers. Armed with about 150 responses, they realized that designers and other fashion pros were overwhelmingly excited about an association. With that information, Denver’s Arts & Venues helped us to find Malcolm, who then through a series of meetings, helped FAD come up with what we stood for, what it wanted to accomplish, and a mission statement. The main focus of the fashion association is help inform and support what's happening in fashion in Denver and Colorado. There are at least three fashion organizations, a couple of fashion weeks or weekends, fashion shows and many designers, models, photographers, bloggers, hair stylists, etc. Before FAD started, a lot of people weren’t even aware that each other existed. Since Facebook FAD business page and the insider group where fashion professionals can post on their projects, events or even resourcing needs, we believe that’s changed a lot.For answers to your questions, e-mail us at [email protected]

Repost• “Whenever I leave this world, whether it’s sixty years from now, I wouldn’t want anyone to say I lost some battle. I’ll be a winner that day,” Andrea Gibson is quoted as saying in the July 14 Facebook post announcing their death.

“Andrea Gibson was a winner today,” the post continued. “On July 14th, at 4:16AM, Andrea Gibson died in their home surrounded by their wife, Meg, four ex-girlfriends, their mother and father, dozens of friends, and their three beloved dogs.”

Gibson, 49, was Colorado’s tenth poet laureate and the author of seven books, including the award-winning Lord of the Butterflies. Gibson was known for their live performances and speaking out on issues of sexism, classism, patriarchy and white supremacy.

“For the last two decades, whenever I’m asked where I want my ashes scattered when I die, I answer, ‘the Mercury Cafe,’” Gibson wrote in a 2020 Westword op-ed about the establishment that is now called . “Not the Grand Canyon or the Pacific Ocean or the lavender fields of France. I want my ashes scattered at the Mercury Cafe in Denver, Colorado.”

Repost • CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS! We’re throwing a party and we need your help!

RePost is an anonymous art sale and benefit for ReCreative Denver. We’re asking our community members to donate a postcard sized (4”x6”) 2-D work in a medium of their choice. We have post cards and card stock in the store to use, but any 4”x6” sturdy substrate will do.

On July 19th, these works will shown anonymously in our gallery, and sold for $25 each. The artist will be revealed after purchase! Proceeds will support ReCreative’s mission creative reuse and accessible arts programming.

I never knew! 😮

💔What would *you* do if you were alone and had a heart attack?💔
1.
Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.
2.
You are really tired and frustrated.
All of a sudden you have chest pains. They are starting to radiate in your arm and jaw. It feels like you’re being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.
3.
Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..
4.
Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.
5.
How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 SECONDS!! before losing consciousness.
6.
But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.
7.
Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs, and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. This is how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment.
8.
Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.
9.
Instead of posting memes, you're helping save lives by spreading this message ❤️
