Spending time at high alpine lakes with your kids is simply good for the soul. Bumpy backcountry roads, fly rods and lots of sunshine. It’s what summertime is all about!

I absolutely love fishing with my kids and my littlest caught the fly fishing bug. We don’t have bluegill ponds in our neck of the woods but when we were on the flat lands we hit up a pond that was packed full with them. We got the fly rods out snd had a ball!
Fly fishing with little kids can be hard. Finding a patch of Stillwater with an open spot for casting is the perfect way to get them hooked for life!
Bluegills and Brookies are some of the best fish to get kids started on. They are ferocious and eager to eat.
Bring extra sunscreen, a good hat, sunglasses and lots of snacks. Don’t forget to debarb those hooks and have tons of fun!

While we were in Glenwood over the weekend we hit up Rifle Falls. The best thing about Colorado is the hidden gems. Never would have guessed that this place existed! Such a cool spot. The falls were gorgeous and they had some cool caves for the kids to explore. If you’re in the area, it’s totally worth the stop!

The kids had their rite of passage hike up to Hanging Lake this weekend. As a Colorado Kids ourselves, and I had a great time showing them this local gem.
If you haven’t made the trek yourself, you totally should. Do yourself a favor and get a permit with an early morning start. Beat the heat and the crowds.
