LORE DROP: The Pearlcrest Crown and The Pearlwoven Aerie
The Danfordian dynasty has ruled Danfaris for centuries. A collection of small island peoples to the west of The Peridot Isles, the plucky Danfords and their subjects were renowned for punching far above the weight of their little realm.
None more so than Duke Yannis Danford who, with famously bursting coffers, sought to circumvent choppy seas and waterways. His first proclamation was to embark on the ambitious development of flying machines, capable of large scale trade.
The neighboring island duchies were, understandably, deeply suspicious of the project’s intent. Unlike his mercantile predecessors, Yannis was considered a belligerent. A loose cannon. And as far as the Peridots, Ulverlies and Blythes were concerned, he sought to take those cannons to the skies.
So imagine their glee when, on their maiden voyage over the trading port of Dancaster, the Duke and his flying machines were set upon by a pack of dragons. Rarely seen so south, and even rarer hunting as a pack.
Out of the smoldering wreckage of the flying armada, the Mayor of Dancaster plucked The Pearlcrest Crown and The Pearlwoven Aerie, the crown and chain of office that had come to symbolize the success of the Danfords. It was a miracle that they survived the fires and the fall. After extensive cleaning and restoration, the regalia landed on the shoulders of Yannis’ son, a teenage boy who listened diligently to his more sober advisors.
Perhaps the flying machines were a folly, not the future.
