Started this one on the iPad a few weeks ago, and seeing the first finished sample come out of Spain always hits different.

The burnishing on this dark patina turned out exactly how I envisioned it, and that flexible sole makes all the difference for daily wear.

I spent years dressing for rooms that weren’t built with me in mind.

Good suits, good shoes — all of it borrowed from somewhere else’s idea of what “well-dressed” means. Nobody ever asked which part of it was actually mine. Every brand I loved growing up spoke a language that wasn’t quite my own.

I got very good at translating — making it work, fitting the shape of somebody else’s taste. This one doesn’t need translating. The Arabic Matrix Luna — hand-engraved, made to order in Spain.

Most people only ever see the finished thing. The shoe, the photo, the post.

Nobody sees the part before that — me, alone, at a desk at some hour that doesn’t have a good name, sketching the same line for the fourth time because it wasn’t quite right the first three.

There’s no full team behind this. No assistant answering the emails I don’t get to. Just me, a laptop, a wall of leather swatches, a sketch book and a lot of coffee that’s gone cold by the time I remember it’s there.

I’m not saying that for sympathy. I actually like it this way. But people should know what “made to order” really means on this end. It means someone stayed up late to make sure it was right — before anyone else ever saw it.
