Towards the end of our night she walks by our booth and locks in on it. I could tell which one she was looking at based on her fit. She was wearing a leopard print shirt and leopard print pants so she’s about that style.
She says “I already told myself I wouldn’t spend one more dime tonight because I bought enough already, but I gotta have this one”. Then she asks me how much for it and I told her they were only $35. She said “dang it, I was hoping you were gonna say they were more expensive because I needed a reason to say no, but at $35 I have to get it”🤣

Although this was my last sale of that night, it was my favorite one of the event because for her our hoodie was a must have, not a should have. The hard work and hustle is not in vain. These are unforgettable moments not because of the sale, it’s because of the interaction and excitement that she was going to get something that she knew she wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else.

Call me silly but I never put 2 & 2 together when thinking about the name of the town Oakland, but as I was walking near city hall I realized they had some pretty big Oak Trees in the plaza area then a light bulb came on and I decided to do some diggin..

Back in the 1700 the Spanish colonizers violently took land in the east bay that was owned by the Ohlone Tribe. The Tribe owned land from Monterey to the San Francisco are for over 10,000 years prior

In the 1800’s The king of Spain granted the land to a person named Luis Maria Peralta and he called it “Encinal” because the land was full of oak trees and in 1852 it officially became a town and was named Oakland by the settlers that moved in during the gold rush.

Today Oakland is goes by the nickname “The Town”, or “Oak town” which was made popular by various hip hop artists to culturally distinguish itself from “The City” of San Francisco.

From Hip Hop to R&B, Oakland has produced some of the biggest stars in the music industry like $Too Short, Digital Underground, MC Hammer, Keyshia Cole, En Vogue, Tower of Power, Raphael Sadique, and one of my favorites, Souls of Mischief, not to mention the numerous big name athletes to come out of there like Ricky Henderson, Marshawn Lynch, Jason Kidd, and Damian Lillard and Gary Payton.

So now when you watch the Warriors play and wonder why they have a oak tree on their jersey or the word “The Town” you’ll know why🤷🏽‍♂️

The Black Joy Parade was an experience unlike any other that we’ve had. The amount of people and the amount of support was something we weren’t used to and if you have not been to it before I encourage you to attend next year and feel the joy for yourself.

As a business owner of a not so common product it’s hard to predict how well you will do at new events. It’s a nervous feeling. For instance, some events will do well while some don’t hit so hard and we’ve figured out the main issue. How do you present something that’s unique? How do you present something that’s different from anything you have seen? More importantly, how do you get someone to understand what it is in the few seconds it takes to walk past the booth. If I were to sell a
t-shirt, that’s a familiar product.. If I were to sell a hoodie, that’s a familiar product, but to sell a Andahoodie, it’s not familiar.

When we see people walking by, if they spend more than 3 seconds looking we ask them if they know what they are looking at. Some get it immediately and love it, but others we’ve asked will assume it’s a skirt based on how the bodice is formed and how it sits on the hanger. Almost every person that assumes it’s a skirt walks away even when we correct them because their mind is made up that they don’t want a skirt and others look and keep walking. Those who get it though, the light bulb comes on and you can see the expression in their face change with a smile and a comment like “that’s pretty clever”, or “that’s a great idea” or they’ll start telling the friends they are walking with about it. That’s gold to us.

This was a great event for us, and we will be back, but there are others that we have had to pass on because our first experience was not so good. Although the frustration is there and the money is lost for those, we have to check that box of events that we had to try because you never know how well people will respond to your product until you are there.

❤️🖤💚Everyday there are mistakes but it’s required on the journey to perfection but if you listen to this whole 2 min video you might be able to learn something new and catch a small history lesson as well.
If you’re free this weekend, come check us out in Oakland for the Black Joy Parade Sunday Feb 22nd from 12-7. This will be our first time setting up there so we are excited because we went as spectators last year and was blown away by the amount of people there.

Gotta give a shout out to a Andahoodie favorite. This guy came from the valley, moved to Colorado and immediately started ballin out and did it all rockin Andahoodies like this Black on White Lion print Andahoodie. Why specifically did he choose this print out of all the prints and patterns we have? He chose it because for him it represents pride and work ethic in football.

Since moving to Colorado not only was he been selected for the D1 All American team, he also got selected for the Southern Colorado All Star team and currently plays 7v7 for VooDoo out of Colorado

For his his many accomplishments and because he chooses to help propel Andahoodie to the next level by promoting it beyond state lines as he keeps taking his ball yo the next level, we gonna call you C-Train 🚂 cuz you keep it pushin😤
