🎀 BREAST CANCER AWARENESS 101: WHEN SHOULD YOU START GETTING MAMMOGRAMS?

A mammogram can detect breast cancer before you notice symptoms.

According to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force:

💗 Ages 40–74: Screening mammograms every two years are recommended for women at average risk.

💗 Higher-risk individuals: Screening may need to begin earlier or include additional tests.

💗 Previous breast cancer: Follow the personalized surveillance plan provided by your cancer care team.

Different medical organizations have slightly different screening recommendations, so discuss the best schedule for you with your healthcare provider.

Early detection saves lives. Screening is an act of self-care.

🎀 BREAST CANCER AWARENESS 101: LET’S TALK ABOUT DENSE BREASTS!

Good morning, Warriors! 💕

Did you know that breast density can affect how easily cancer is detected on a mammogram?

Here are three important things to know:

💗 You cannot determine breast density by touch. It’s identified through mammography.

💗 Dense breast tissue can make cancer harder to detect. Dense tissue and some cancers both appear white on mammograms.

💗 Having dense breasts is associated with a higher risk of breast cancer. However, having dense breasts does NOT mean you have cancer.

Since September 2024, mammography facilities nationwide have been required to inform patients whether their breast tissue is dense or not dense.

Here’s your reminder: Read your mammogram results, ask questions, and discuss whether additional screening might be appropriate for your personal risk.

Knowledge helps us advocate for ourselves and the people we love.

💬 LET’S TALK: Have you ever checked your mammogram report to see whether you have dense breasts?

Remember, Warriors: Your health matters. Your questions matter. YOU matter! 💗

🎀 BREAST CANCER AWARENESS 101: KNOW YOUR RISK FACTORS!

Good morning, Warriors! 💗

Did you know that some breast cancer risk factors are within our control, while others are not?

Factors we cannot change:
💕 Getting older
💕 Family history and certain inherited genetic changes
💕 Previous radiation exposure to the chest, particularly at a young age

Steps that may help lower risk:
🎀 Stay physically active.
🎀 Maintain a healthy weight.
🎀 Limit or avoid alcohol.
🎀 Discuss your personal risk and screening schedule with your healthcare provider.

Remember, having risk factors does not mean you will develop breast cancer, and having no known risk factors does not mean you’re completely protected.

Knowledge is power. Prevention matters. Early detection matters. YOU matter! 💗

The People Who Show Up

Behind many cancer warriors is someone quietly showing up.

The person who drives to appointments, prepares meals, sends encouraging messages, or simply sits beside someone when words aren’t necessary.

Caregivers, family members, and friends may not always receive recognition, but their support matters.

And caregivers need compassion and rest, too.

Today, let’s acknowledge the people who make difficult journeys a little less lonely.

💬 Let’s Talk: Who showed up for you when you needed someone most? Give them a little recognition today. 💗

Breast Cancer Awareness 101 — Screening vs. Symptoms

Did you know that breast cancer screening and evaluating breast symptoms are two different things?

A screening mammogram is used to look for signs of breast cancer in people who don’t have symptoms.

But if you notice a new lump, ni**le discharge, skin changes, or something unusual about your breasts, don’t wait for your next routine mammogram.

Contact your healthcare provider to discuss what you’re experiencing.

Remember, a recent normal mammogram doesn’t mean new symptoms should be ignored.

Knowledge gives us the opportunity to advocate for our health.

💬 Let’s Talk: Do you feel comfortable asking your healthcare provider questions when something doesn’t seem right?

Good morning, Warriors! 💕

Sometimes strength looks like getting out of bed. Sometimes it looks like keeping an appointment, asking for help, or admitting that today is difficult.

You don’t have to be positive every moment to be courageous.

Cancer can change your energy, emotions, and outlook on life. Give yourself permission to experience those feelings without judgment.

Your worth isn’t measured by how much you accomplish today.

💬 Let’s Talk: What’s one thing you’ve learned about giving yourself grace?

A Sunday Prayer for Every Cancer Journey 💗

Dear God,

As we begin this Sunday, we lift up every person whose life has been touched by cancer.

We pray for the newly diagnosed who are trying to understand what comes next.

We pray for those receiving chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, or other treatments.

We pray for those waiting on test results, facing difficult decisions, or living with cancer that requires ongoing care.

Lord, give them strength for today and peace in moments of uncertainty.

We pray for survivors who are learning to navigate life after treatment. Help them find patience with themselves as they continue healing.

Bless the caregivers who give so much of their time, energy, and love. Remind them that they need care and rest, too.

Comfort the families grieving loved ones whose presence is deeply missed.

And for anyone quietly struggling today, remind them that they are seen, loved, and never forgotten.

May this new week bring moments of comfort, renewed strength, meaningful connections, and reasons to hold on to hope.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏾💗

💕 Our Sunday Prayer Circle: If someone needs prayer today, leave their first name, a 💗, or a 🙏🏾 in the comments. No explanation is necessary.

Don’t Forget to Celebrate the Little Joys

Not Every Meaningful Moment Has to Be a Major Milestone.

Sometimes we spend so much time waiting for the next big celebration that we overlook the beautiful moments happening right in front of us.

A peaceful morning.

A conversation that makes you laugh.

A favorite song.

A good meal.

Time with family.

An afternoon when you feel a little more like yourself.

For someone navigating cancer, recovery, grief, or another difficult season, these moments can carry special meaning.

You don’t have to feel joyful every day. But when joy finds you, you’re allowed to enjoy it.

💗 Your life is still filled with moments worth noticing.

💬 Saturday celebration: What’s one small thing that brought you happiness this week?

Let’s fill the comments with reasons to smile. 💕

National Mammography Day

Breast Cancer Awareness: Make Your Health a Priority

Today is National Mammography Day, an opportunity to encourage conversations about breast health and appropriate screening.

A mammogram is an X-ray examination that can help detect breast changes, sometimes before symptoms appear.

But screening isn’t one-size-fits-all.

When to begin mammograms and how often to have them can depend on your age, personal history, family history, and other risk factors.

Talk with your healthcare provider about the screening plan that’s appropriate for you.

And remember: if you notice a new or concerning breast change, don’t wait for your next routine screening appointment to discuss it.

💗 Awareness isn’t about creating fear. It’s about having information and taking appropriate action.

Today, consider checking whether you’re due for screening or encouraging someone you love to discuss breast health with their provider.

💬 Friday reminder: Have you made time for an important health appointment you’ve been putting off?

Your Questions Deserve Answers

Cancer Awareness: Be an Active Part of Your Care

Whether you’re newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or attending follow-up appointments, remember that your questions matter.

Medical appointments can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re processing unfamiliar information.

It’s okay to ask your healthcare team to explain something again.

It’s okay to bring a trusted person to an appointment.

It’s okay to write your questions down beforehand.

Consider asking: What does this result mean? What are my treatment options? What side effects should I report? What happens next?

You deserve information you can understand and the opportunity to participate in decisions about your care.

💗 Speaking up isn’t being difficult. It’s advocating for yourself.

💬 Community conversation: What’s one question you wish you’d asked earlier in your cancer journey?
