A couple fun “one-off” bags up for grabs.

First one is a smaller profile bag with a single tapered strap. Can be worn around the shoulder or carried by hand. Four exterior pockets and a cent clasp closure.
Made from 21oz natural canvas and solid brass hardware.

Special edition book tote with two exterior pockets with snap closures and special pocket stitching. Made from 21oz natural canvas and 18oz yellow canvas.

This is the last bag with the yellow material so get it while you can!

This special edition “one-off” bag (the making of which is shown in the previous two videos) is up for grabs.

A hybrid between The Coal Tote, Commuter, and Simple Tote with a special edition leather strap. The bag features two interior pockets with a handmade embroidered logo, reinforced bottom, brass riveted triangle corners and custom canvas handles.

Made from 21oz natural canvas.

All solid brass hardware.

Dimensions: 17in long at the top and tapers down to 12in at the bottom, 12.5in tall, 7.5in wide.

Process Part 2 —

The result of the work is two special edition “one-off” bags. A hybrid between The Coal Tote, Commuter, and Simple Tote with a special edition leather strap. The bags feature two interior pockets with a handmade embroidered logo, reinforced bottom, brass riveted triangle corners and custom canvas handles.

The orange one was a commission but the natural one is an extra that’s for sale (or I’ll keep for myself).

Really enjoyed making these two.

Part 1 of the process of making a couple one-off special edition bags.

Much of this process is full of long and boring tasks to most people. I try to enjoy every aspect of creating these products. It’s not just designing, picking fabric and sewing. It’s endless amounts of ironing, tracing patterns, pinning, hand cutting and burnishing leather, setting and hammering rivets…

I try to get orders out as quick as possible but I want to ensure that detail and quality take priority.

A series of tasks that eventually add up to a finished product.

- Coal Tote -

Around the late 19th and early 20th centuries, heavy canvas bags were used by delivery men to hall coal from barges, trains or carts. They were typically raw, durable canvas, with flat bottoms and were heavily riveted at stress points. They would have been quite common here in Kentucky. The house I live in was heated by coal. The soot can still be found in the attic.

The purpose and practicality of a heavy canvas bag has withstood the test of time. After over a decade of working with and sewing this material Ive yet to grow tired of it and am always impressed by how well it holds up to rigors of everyday use.

I am not the first to design a bag like this and certainly wont be the last. Some things don’t need to change. All that matters to me is that my products serve their purpose and last as long as possible.

Use it. Get it dirty. Live with it.
