A few weeks postpartum, she had Alyson and her son over for a playdate. Leave it to Kennedy to ask Alyson if she had a birth photographer for her upcoming birth.

Her response? šŸ˜’ ā€œHeck no.ā€

Well, I guess Alyson started thinking about it more, looked up my IG, and next thing you know, having birth photos was a MUST šŸ˜‚

I love stories like this. I love when friends encourage friends. Itā€™s one thing for me to tell you that you need birth pics, but when someone who has nothing to gain from it encourages you to do it, thatā€™s a whole different level.

And Iā€™m so glad she listened. šŸ¤

ps: when alyson reached out she asked that no birth photos were shared online. I always respect this!!! 2/9 births in the last month asked me not to share. But after seeing this photo, I HAD to ask if I could share this beautifully raw image. She said ā€œyou can def share it.ā€ So I hope this images touches someoneā€” because I was brave to ask ā˜ŗļø

pss: in July my family and 2 family friends were in austin eating pizza and someone walked up to me and said ā€œare you whitney??? youā€™re photographing my birth in septā€¦ its me, alyson!ā€ how crazy is that?! I love small moments like that. Just further confirmation weā€™re both where we need to be.

first time parents, gracefully entering life with their new baby. thereā€™s so much unknown to come with having a baby for the first time. how will birth go? what will I feel like after? how will our marriage be impacted by having a baby? do we have everything we need? which stroller is the best + should I go with the doona or the nuna?
my biggest advice: donā€™t let the logistics and unknown stop you from documenting. if iā€™ve learned anything from being in this postpartum bubble: no matter how everything plays out, you will be having your baby and you will want photos. no matter what.
hereā€™s how a fresh48 works:
you text me when you go into labor to give heads up. then you text when baby has arrived. we pick a time (usually the next day). if older siblings are attending, they arrive 30 min into the session and I document their arrival and meeting their new baby.
I stay an hour. Itā€™s simple- your new family in the place of birth. documented forever and ever so that when your baby grows up and says ā€œhey mom I wanna see pics of when I was a day oldā€ you can pull out these photos. šŸ¤

After I had my fourth baby, the first thing I said was ā€œguys, that wasnā€™t even that badā€¦ā€ (mind you, this was my first unmedicated birth. It was def intense, so iā€™m not sure what I was thinking when I said that.) šŸ„²
