I photographed Hillary’s best friends birth in June, and as any best friend does- she convinced her bestie to get birth photos also. Hillary was a *little* hesitant because her previous births it was only her husband in the room. But her bestie somehow reassured her that I wasn’t thaaaaat bad to have in the room (thanks, lex 🤟🏼). At 32w, Hillary’s baby girl was breech and as we spoke on the phone, she just couldn’t wrap her head around birth photos for a c-section. It just didn’t feel “worth it”. I shared with her that it doesn’t matter how your baby comes into the world, it’s still the moment you’re meeting your baby. Over the next few weeks, her baby girl will ended up flipping head down. Such an answer to prayer!

Fast forward to the morning of her induction, things began to progress quickly- quicker than her previous two births. We decided it was time for me to head that way, and when I was twenty minutes away, they realized the baby’s foot was right there and called for emergency c-section. For any of my other birth workers out there, you know it’s a hard no for me to go back into that OR. I contemplated going to a nearby coffee shop until the golden hour when they’d allow me in. Instead, I felt like it wasn’t time to stop trying. I hadn’t gotten updates from dad for 10 min, so I was just sitting in the waiting area… when suddenly he said they’d allow me back. The nurses station looked at me like I was crazy, and told me if I went into OR, dad would need to leave. I scrambled to get my bunny suit in… and as I walked into the room the doctor said “hold up your camera she’s coming out!” Time of birth: 10:48am. Look at the last slide to see what time dad told me I could come back. 😭😭 Literally perfect timing. Im so thankful, and so proud of Hillary and Ralph for handling a chaotic moment so beautifully. I left this little guys birth having yet to hear him cry. He was born and immediately whisked away for support. His mama sat there, having just delivered her first baby… without him in her arms. A feeling far too many mamas know. 🤍 Dad followed baby boy to the NICU, and we just sat there. No photos being taken- just sitting. Believing and trusting he’d be okay. I left that night still not hearing that cry… something we all long to hear at a birth. but you bet as soon as I could get over to that home to see that baby boy, I did. What you see: photos of a family of three. What I see: strength beyond what I thought imaginable. A perseverance that pushes through even when it all looked differently than planned. The story behind these photos hold a special place. These three will forever hold a special place…

your baby will turn one.

you will either have the photographs from the moments you first met them, or you won’t.

as time continues on, those moments become more and more of a memory.

you’ll remember how it felt.
you’ll remember how tiny they were.
but you won’t remember every little detail.

thats what the photos are for.

they freeze a life changing + priceless moment that only happens once. ONE time!!!!!

and when your baby turns one, five, or is about to get married, you’ll still have a way to go back to the exact moment you first met them. 🤍

Fresh48 at setons newest women’s center! everything’s so clean and new ✨🧼
fresh48’s are sooo sweet… taken at your place of birth before discharge. you just shoot me a text once baby is here and we coordinate a time that works (typically the morning after baby is born depending on discharge time) it’s an hour long session- special and led by the baby! if you don’t get birth photos, let me at leaaaaassstttt convince you to have these. 👼🏼 perfect way to announce babies arrival- not to mention the moments that feel like a blur are preserved forever. grandmas love these pics too ☺️ i told this ftm she’ll be so proud of herself for planning these photos even if she didn’t know what to expect with birth/postpartum. welcome, sweet girl. 🤍

“nothing missing // nothing lacking”, a prayer written by lucas’ great grandmother. A prayer of faith that she wrote when lucas’ mama was nineteen weeks pregnant and was told he wouldn’t make it by multiple doctors. With so much uncertainty, Trent and Amelia would sit in their unfinished (decorating was paused because of the uncertainty of the future) babies nursery and cry…cry out to God and read this prayer of faith. It’s almost like his great grandma has lived so much life to know that when we ask, God listens. Though lucas’ life will look different than most, his story has already been crafted- a testimony that will speak to many. As I sit here drinking my latte with tears rolling down my face, I remind myself that we could all be a little more like great grandma. a little more bold in our prayers, a little more faith filled. Walking into this home felt like walking into a wave of peace. As first time parents, trent + amelia were without a doubt CHOSEN to be Lucas’ parents. If you pray, will you pray for strength and wisdom as they continue to walk out a life they never thought imagined? A life that isn’t missing or lacking- a life that is full of miracles. 🤍 Welcome, Lucas.

since 1984, he’s been delivering babies…but on this day, he delivered his grandsons. as his daughter walked back into the OR to get prepped, he yelled “go get em’, blake” as he raised his hand high waving…just like any dad would do.

all three of his adult children (who are also doctors) were in the room…two of them standing by as their sister welcomed her twin boys. it wasn’t just another ordinary day… it was a day they’ll *never* forget. welcome, baby boys. 🤍
