Why Genuine Sea Glass Matters

One of the questions I hear most often is...

"Do you tumble your glass?"
Absolutely Not!!!

Authentic sea glass begins as ordinary glass that accidentally finds its way into the ocean.

Over decades, the waves gently smooth every sharp edge, creating the soft, frosted finish that collectors treasure.

It can't be rushed.

It can't truly be replicated.

Every genuine piece represents years—sometimes even 50 to 100 years—of nature quietly transforming something discarded into something beautiful.

That's why I love working with authentic sea glass.

People often ask me what takes the longest when I’m making jewelry. The answer really depends on the piece. For my bezel-set designs, it’s definitely the silversmithing. But for these simple beachy boho earrings, it’s actually finding two pieces that match as closely as possible.

I sort through hundreds (sometimes thousands!) of pieces of sea glass and Gulf Coast shells looking for the ones that naturally go together. Nature doesn’t make perfect pairs, and I think that’s part of what makes them so special.

Since I’m taking a little summer studio break from the markets, this is exactly what I’ll be working on. I’ll be spending the next few weeks sorting, matching, and pairing as many pieces as I can so I have lots of new designs ready for my fall markets and the boutiques I’ll be partnering with.

It’s slow, peaceful work… and honestly, I love it. 💙

The Sea to Shining Sea Collection was inspired by years of collecting genuine sea glass along our beautiful American coastlines—from my home beaches on Long Island to adventures that have taken me to new shores.

Each piece reminds me that beauty can be found in unexpected places and that even something once broken can become something extraordinary.

Every summer I take a little time to slow down.

The markets have wrapped up for the season, and now my days are spent where they always begin—along the shoreline, in my studio, and at my workbench.

July is my season to collect inspiration, create new pieces, and prepare for an exciting fall.

While I may not be spending much time on social media this month, my online shop is always open and I'll still be carefully packing every order that comes in.
