I came out in 1982.
There were no rainbow logos everywhere. No social media. No Pride collections in every major store.
For many of us, being openly gay meant risking friendships, family relationships, careers, and sometimes much more.
A lot has changed since then.
And that's worth celebrating.
But Pride was never just about parades or merchandise. It was about visibility. It was about saying, "I exist, and I'm not going away."
As someone who has lived through decades of change, lost friends during the AIDS crisis, loved deeply, lost deeply, and found the courage to keep moving forward, I can tell you this:
Pride still matters.
Not because of the rainbow flags.
Because there are still people who need to know they're not alone.
