February book club pick blew us all away. What a story! What a life! What a novel! I opened the book knowing the infamous double C's of Chanel and that she was a french fashion designer, but that was about it. The story of her life absolutely stunned and blew me away. This book beautifully explores the inner world of Gabrielle Chanel, Coco, and how with extreme ambition, passion, and strength she achieved the life she always desired.

Started 2023 Book Club off with a bang.
Lessons in Chemistry, a book I would never pick up, but loved. Chemist Elizabeth Zott is truly a woman ahead of her time in the early 1960s. She's blunt, quirky, and daring society to change the view on women. The story is told from various points of view, which I always enjoy, and even the dog has a voice.
This is just a book of wonderful storytelling! Go grab it!

My book posts seem to slim to none lately, but this one had to be posted!
What a story!! I honestly have no idea where I heard about this book, but I just want to hug whomever it was. This is truly a wonderful read and something that is meaningful and will stick with me. So many books I read are great and entertaining, but if you were to ask me about it 4 weeks later I am not sure what I could even recall.
"Mrs Kennedy and Me" is a memoir written by Clint Hill. Clint was Jackie Kennedy's secret service agent during the four years leading up to and following JFK's tragic assassination. This is raw, heartfelt, and educational!

If you're like me, the majority of your shopping is done online. I just do not have the time to go into stores and when I do most seem sparse.
Well that was not the case on Friday... I ran into GAP to do a quick return and spotted this shirt while in line. I did not have time to try it on and simply said to myself, I will just look online and order it. Well, I came home and the shirt definitely did not look appealing online and it was sold out in my size. Thankfully my sweet husband drove me back to the store before our dinner date and I grabbed the shirt as well as one other shirt I had been eyeing online for months but was sold out in my size.
Gap at Avalon won me over!! I also realized I need to take a moment every now and then and actually visit a store instead of their webpage.

It all started with this sweater, and the verdict is still out on it. I knew I wanted a gold skirt to wear with it and so the search began… This skirt will be my fourth pleated skirt for the holiday season. Clearly they are timeless and “so me”.

Just Do It... I bought these "leather" shorts last summer for "going out". I have now realized "going out" mostly consists of going to the football fields, soccer fields, or baseball fields so I decided yesterday to "Just Do It" and I wore them to work at the preschool. I certainly had an extra pep in my step and felt cute while cutting pumpkins and painting spiders. When in doubt, if you love it, just wear it!

We had such a fun night at my son's school, that we took zero pictures, BUT I received numerous compliments on this dress, so I thought I would share. "Leather" is the perfect transition trend from summer to fall and I could not pass up this dress.

WOW... Talk about a book that makes you stop and think. I was hoping to read this with my book club but a few ladies were not interested so myself and another friend read it together. Then I discovered two ladies at work had just finished it, so we enjoyed a nice "mini book club" yesterday morning before the kids arrived.
Blythe Connor is a mother with a troubled upbringing. She has a wonderful marriage and then they welcome their first daughter, Violet, into their lives. Blythe tries to be the mother she never had, but becomes convinced something is deeply wrong with her daughter. Blythe and her husband, Fox, then welcome a son and everyone is in love with him, even Violet. Then in an instant, life as they know it changes, and Blythe is forced to face the truth.

I snuck in this quick read between a few book club books. I must admit, light hearted fiction isn't really my 'go to' but I had seen people recommending this book so I snapped it up on a Kindle sale. I was certainly happy I did.
The Wedding Veil is a wonderful mix of historical fiction and present day fiction telling the story of runaway bride, Julia Baxter, and her families' mysterious wedding veil. While bouncing back to the fictional account of the only child of George & Edith and heir to Biltmore House, Cornelia Vanderbilt.
I certainly am ready to head to Asheville and visit The Biltmore after finishing this book!

JULY BOOK CLUB… WOW! My girls at book club totally blew my mind last night with an entirely different ending of this book! 🤯 This book is deep and sad and contains many unlikeable characters, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and absolutely LOVED discussing it last night! The joys of book club!

Well I finished it... and man it was an effort. It was not a long book, but I just felt like I would read and read and read and make no progress.
I know this book is a classic and probably 99% of readers rave about it, but clearly I was not a fan. Although, like a lot of books, after discussing it with the ladies at book club last night, I do have a better appreciation and the reason we chose this book was the similarities between Perry and Dick to Duchess and Wooly in Lincoln Highway. The more we discussed, the greater the similarities became.
BUT, the question which one friend asked last night, that I cannot stop thinking about was, "Are we numb to murder now?" "In Cold Blood" is viewed as the first nonfiction suspense novel and while reading, I kept thinking, "Where is the blood and guts?", "People actually think this is scary?" and "There is only one murder in the entire book?" With all the PodCasts and suspense/thriller novels out there, it is hard to be shocked anymore.
So I am happy to say I have read the book but more than happy to jump on to something new for spring break!
