Terra Clotha I do vat dyeing. It’s never the same twice in a row; these garments are one of a kind I produce bright, colorful clothing using a technique known as vat dyeing.

Typically, I dye T-shirts for children and adults; baby clothes, including onesies and bubble rompers; dresses and skirts; hats; and silk neckties. The dye tends to collect in the folds, giving the piece a variegated design. After the clothing has been laundered and dried, I typically give it an overdye bath in a second color. The overdye process gives the piece a richness that usually cannot come

from a single dye color. It’s never the same twice in a row, so these garments are best suited to artistic risk-takers. Most Saturdays, I’m at the Durham Farmers’ Market on Foster Street in downtown Durham, NC. It’s open 8 a.m. to noon April through November; 10 a.m. to noon December through March.
