Choosing Friends Wisely

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” — Proverbs 13:20 (KJV)

The people we allow closest to us have a tremendous influence on our thoughts, attitudes, and direction. Friendships are a blessing from God, but not every relationship is meant to have the same level of access to our hearts. Some people encourage us to pray, worship, and pursue God’s will. Others can slowly pull us away from the things that matter most.

Choosing friends wisely isn’t about being unkind or believing we’re better than others. Jesus loved everyone, but He was intentional about who He allowed into His closest circle. We should love all people, yet surround ourselves with those who strengthen our faith, speak truth, and help us become who God has called us to be.

A true friend will encourage holiness, celebrate your victories, pray with you through your struggles, and lovingly tell you the truth when you need it. They won’t pressure you to compromise or make light of your walk with God.

If a friendship continually pulls you away from God, steals your peace, or causes you to become someone you don’t want to be, it may be time to prayerfully reevaluate that relationship. Ask God to bring godly influences into your life and to make you the kind of friend that others are blessed by.

Good Habits

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” — Galatians 6:9 (KJV)

Most people don’t wake up one day and suddenly become strong in their walk with God. Spiritual growth is usually built through small, faithful habits repeated day after day.

A prayer here. A chapter of Scripture there. Choosing kindness when you’re tired. Going to church when it’s easier to stay home. Worshipping even when you don’t feel like it. These may seem like small things, but small seeds produce great harvests.

The enemy often wants us to chase dramatic moments while neglecting daily faithfulness. Yet many of God’s greatest works are accomplished through consistent obedience. Daniel prayed daily. The early church gathered regularly. Jesus often withdrew to pray. Their habits helped prepare them for the battles and blessings ahead.

Good habits won’t save us, but they can position us to hear God’s voice more clearly and follow Him more faithfully. Every time you choose prayer over distraction, worship over worry, and faith over fear, you are building something that will last.

Don’t despise the small disciplines. The habits you build today may become the foundation that carries you through tomorrow’s storm.

When You Feel Overwhelmed

Have you ever had one of those days where everything seems to hit at once? The bills, the responsibilities, the family needs, the ministry demands, the unanswered prayers, and the worries about tomorrow. Sometimes life can feel so heavy that we don’t know where to start.

The good news is that God never asked us to carry it all by ourselves.

David understood what it felt like to be overwhelmed. He prayed:

“From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
— Psalm 61:2 (KJV)

Notice David didn’t say if his heart was overwhelmed. He said when. Feeling overwhelmed is not a sign that you have failed. It is a reminder that you need a Rock bigger than yourself.

Too often we try to carry tomorrow’s burdens with today’s strength. We replay every problem, every possibility, and every fear until we’re exhausted. But Jesus invites us to bring those burdens to Him.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

When you feel overwhelmed, don’t focus on the size of the storm. Focus on the One who walks on the water. The same God who has carried you through every trial before is still faithful today.

Take a deep breath. Pray. Worship. Open His Word. You don’t have to figure everything out tonight. Just take the next step God has placed in front of you and trust Him with the rest.

The burden may feel heavy, but His shoulders are stronger.

Helping Carry the Load

One of the greatest gifts God gives us is each other. Life has a way of placing heavy burdens on our shoulders—heartache, sickness, financial struggles, family problems, disappointment, and grief. Sometimes the weight feels too much to carry alone.

The Bible tells us:

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2 (KJV)

Notice that Paul didn’t say to simply notice someone’s burden. He said to bear it. That means stepping alongside them. It means praying when they are too weary to pray. It means encouraging when they feel defeated. It means showing up when everyone else has walked away.

True friendship isn’t measured by who celebrates with us on the mountain, but by who stands beside us in the valley.

Think about the four men who carried their friend to Jesus when he couldn’t get there himself. They were so determined to help him that they climbed onto a roof and lowered him down through it. Their faith and willingness to carry their friend’s burden led him to a miracle.

Sometimes God calls us to be those friends.

You may not be able to solve every problem someone is facing, but you can help carry the weight. A phone call, a meal, a kind word, a prayer, or simply sitting beside someone in their pain can make all the difference.

Today, ask God to help you notice those who are struggling. Someone around you may be carrying a burden that feels unbearable. Your kindness, compassion, and prayers may be exactly what God uses to remind them they are not alone.

Taking Care of the Temple

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” — 1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV)

We often think of stewardship in terms of our money, our talents, or our time. But one of the greatest gifts God has entrusted to us is our body. Scripture reminds us that our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. It is not merely a vessel to carry us through life—it is a place where God’s Spirit dwells.

Taking care of our temple is not about vanity or chasing worldly standards of beauty. It is about honoring God with what He has given us. Getting enough rest, making wise food choices, staying active, and caring for our mental and spiritual well-being are all acts of stewardship.

Sometimes we neglect ourselves while taking care of everyone else. We run on empty, ignore warning signs, and convince ourselves that our health doesn’t matter. Yet God has work for us to do, people for us to love, and a purpose for us to fulfill. We are better able to serve His kingdom when we care for the temple He has entrusted to us.

The goal is not perfection. We all have areas where we can improve. The goal is simply to honor God with our choices and to remember that our health affects our ability to worship, work, minister, and enjoy the blessings He has given us.

Today, thank God for the body He has given you. Then ask Him for wisdom to care for it faithfully—not out of pride, but out of gratitude.
