Most brands wouldn't show you this. They’d take your money, ship the product, and hope you don't notice the details. That isn't how North Coast Supply operates.

We just received the production photos for our final hat run. The factory tried to ship them. I looked at the arch height curve of the brim and realized it was off by exactly 1 centimeter.

To most people, a centimeter doesn't matter. To me, it’s the difference between gear that works and gear that’s just for show.

I rejected the shipment. I told the factory to stop production and re-steam every single unit to our 4.0cm industrial standard. I’d rather launch late than launch wrong. That is the 'North Coast' promise. We don't cut corners, and we don't settle for 'good enough.'

We are currently at 8% of our goal. To be blunt: at this rate, the Helmsman's Rigger Shirt collection won't happen. The machinery won't turn on. The 454gsm cotton/tencel won't be milled.

If you’ve been waiting on the sidelines to see if we’re serious—this is your answer. We are fighting for a higher standard of Great Lakes gear. But I can't fight the factories and the shipping lanes alone.

The 30-day clock is a metric for the platform, but for North Coast Supply, the only metric that matters is the "Gold Sample." We aren't just "making a shirt"; we are stress-testing a piece of industrial equipment.

Based on recent feedback from maritime professionals and our latest rounds of wear-testing on the Lake Huron shore, here is the forensic breakdown of the current refinements moving into our final production sample:

The Weight (12.5oz / 424 GSM): Most "heavyweight" shirts stop at 8oz. We’ve confirmed the 12.5oz density is the non-negotiable floor for the North Coast. It provides the mechanical protection required for deck work while acting as a wind-breaking "hull" for the wearer.

The 9cm Mesh Reduction: We’ve re-engineered the underarm gussets. The goal was to provide high-velocity breathability without compromising the structural integrity of the side seams. We’ve found the "sweet spot" at 9cm to allow heat dissipation during heavy labor without creating a snag hazard.

Hardware & Stress Points: We are moving to reinforced brass hardware that won't seize in freshwater salt environments. We’ve also identified three key points on the shoulder yoke that require triple-needle "stay-stitching" to handle the torque of overhead movement.

The Mission remains the same: We are building this for the 6% of you who prioritize durability over fast fashion. Whether we hit a digital goal or not, the "Traditional Road" doesn't stop. We are clearing the deck for production.

I took the drone out to Rockport State Recreation Area in Alpena to catch the ice finally breaking its winter hold. This place is a monument to Michigan grit—the limestone from this very quarry formed the foundations of the Mackinac Bridge.

Standing on these peaks, it’s wild to imagine this was once a tropical seafloor near the equator. Today, it’s a frozen testing ground. The snow is still holding on, but the limestone is starting to break through.

We’re building North Coast Supply on this same kind of foundation: rugged, enduring, and Michigan-made.

The world just got a lesson in Great Lakes grit. 🇺🇸🥇

Team USA Men’s Hockey took Gold in Milano Cortina, burying Canada 2-1 in overtime. Look at the roster. It is no coincidence that the backbone of this squad was forged on Great Lakes ice.

Dylan Larkin (Waterford) set the physical tone, Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce Township) built a 41-save brick wall. Jack Hughes (Canton) called game in OT. On the Women’s side, native Megan Keller (Farmington Hills) and the squad locked down the ice to reclaim their rightful throne.

Between the Men's and Women's hockey teams reclaiming the throne, and locals like Baumgartner, Kuhn, and Stolz dominating the snow and speed tracks, the message is clear.

Cold water and long winters don't make you soft. They make you resilient.

The first three Helmsman’s Rigger Shirts have left California and are currently on a 16 wheeler headed across the country toward the North Coast.

These aren't just samples. They are the final prototypes—the "Blueprints in Fabric"—that will define the standard for everything we build at North Coast Supply Co.

The Plan: > 1. They land in Tawas in the next 48-72 hours.
2. I’m taking them straight to the studio to put them through the final "Grit Test."
3. If they pass, the Kickstarter Launch date is officially locked.

The Gate: We are still filling the manifest to hit our 50-person crew requirement. Once these shirts land, the "Early Bird" slots are going to be the most contested gear in the state.
