Mary Ann's Dance and More

Mary Ann's Dance and More Western MA's Source for Dance Apparel and More - Where Shopping LOCAL is COOL! Pointe shoe fittings are very important to us.
(1)

We take the time to educate the dancer and the parents about pointe shoes, how to care for pointe shoes, the life expectancy of pointe shoes, and the care of the feet before we start the fitting. We feel that it is important that you understand the entire pointe “story” before we fit.

We are dedicated to ensuring that you have the dance apparel you need for those studio requirements, competitions, performances, and summer intensives.

September is FASD Awareness Month.

For far too many Massachusetts families, including mine, the hardest part is not only navigating the daily realities of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders—it is the exhausting fight to get a diagnosis, find knowledgeable supports/providers, access services, and simply be heard.

Too often, children and adults with FASD fall through the cracks, especially here in Massachusetts. Their needs are misunderstood as behavioral problems, lack of effort, or something families should be able to manage alone.

Caregivers are left searching for answers in systems that are not prepared to recognize or support FASD.

I’m sharing information, lived experience, advocacy, and resources through my private Substack - Falling through the Cracks – FASD in MA.

Please share this post with someone who needs to know they are not alone or to help bring FASD to the forefront of those who make legislative decisions to help close these cracks.

Thank you all for the good wishes - she came home on Monday night. She somehow swallowed the black object and it got lodged in her large intestine. Lucky they only need an incision in the large intestine and not a resection of it. She got the cone of shame for 14 days and meds to relax her so she doesn’t pop the stitches - her tummy was cut open about 6” …. And thankfully insurance covered 90% of the cost (again better than our insurance).

This little lady is having surgery tomorrow - we could use all the prayers, good vibes you have … she swallowed something she can’t pass on her own and it’s in her large intestine. 😭

What does it really look like navigating FASD every single day?

It's struggling to get the right support. It's the gaps in the system that shouldn't exist—the ones that affect everything from basic tasks to your family's long-term stability. It's the reality for families, like mine, living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and it needs to be seen.

I've created content that shows the truth behind those gaps as well as education content to share what FASD is. Not the polished version. The actual experience of raising a child with FASD and fighting for the help we all need.

I'd love for you to watch. And if you believe more people need to understand what families living with FASD are facing—if you think this conversation matters—consider subscribing and sharing this with your network. The more eyes on this, the harder it is to ignore.
