❤️Flirting in New York❤️
This week I am preparing for my semi-annual buying trip to New York. Many of you have asked over the years what that means. I go to two “shows” one of which is at the Javits Convention Center, the other is a smaller show in a beautiful warehouse space. Both are in Manhattan. Many of the international brands show at one of the two shows. The brands arrive from around the globe with their samples for their next season. When I go in summertime, they will have their samples for spring, which is January to June. When I go in February, they will have samples for fall, which is July to December.
Though it is a buying trip, I don’t come home with anything. I place orders from their samples. These trips require a lot of planning and looking ahead. I am bound to the orders I place so based on how sales have gone in the previous year, I need to guess what they will be in the coming season. As you can imagine, this has been a big challenge in the last couple years. I do my best and remain positive!
This is a time of hard work yes, but also a lot of fun and reunions with friends from around the world that I only see during these trips. After 18 years in business, I have made many dear friends in the industry.
This time around, I have been invited to an exclusive dinner with the German brand Mey. This brand holds me dear because I was the first store in the United States to take a chance and carry them when they first attended the show. I have also been invited to Chantelle’s 150 year anniversary cocktail party. I’m sure both events will be beautiful!
As I prepare in the next couple days, I invite you to share with me which brands you like the best, brands/styles/colors/sizes that you hope to see at Flirt, as well as any notes on quality of the items that you have purchased in the past. I am buying for all of you after all so your input is very important to me! And if you think it is hard to choose when you come into Flirt, then think of me having to decide in a sea of lingerie in a convention center!
