A little outfit building this Thursday morning. 🤎

Our long-awaited Horses + Houndstooth Pants are finally here — and if there was ever a piece made for our current funky western, boho-chic chapter, these are it.

They’re the statement, so we started by keeping the rest of the foundation quiet: an ivory Poet Blouse, cream mules and our black + white Kelly Tooke bag.

But here’s where I think an outfit goes from a few really cute pieces to a full look:

Layers. Texture. Pattern.

Even when you have something bold happening on the bottom, you don’t necessarily have to compete with it on top. Instead, add interest.

We layered necklaces in different lengths and textures, then added a neck twilly for just another little touch of pattern. None of it takes away from the pants — it just makes the whole thing feel finished and, more importantly, makes it feel like you.

And then there are the staples: a great neutral shoe, a really good bag, jewelry you can layer a dozen different ways. Those are the pieces that quietly help us build outfit after outfit around whatever statement piece we’re loving that day.

This is just one way we’re styling the new Horses + Houndstooth Pants. And if you look through the previous post, you’ll see another way to wear our Poet Blouse too — a piece we’ve previously styled much softer and more romantically.

Same wardrobe. Completely different story.

That’s the fun part. 🤎

Everything you see here — the pants, Poet Blouse, layered jewelry, neck twilly, Kelly Tooke bag + mules — is available now at Serene&Silk.

Open 10–7 today in Downtown Effingham + online anytime.

🤎 AN EVENING FOR MAE 🤎
Thursday, September 24 | 5–8 PM
Serene&Silk • Downtown Effingham

Some of you already know Mae.

Some of you have followed her story, prayed for her family, donated, shared her name, and stood beside them through an unimaginable season.

And some of you may be hearing Mae’s name for the very first time.

On September 24, we’re opening our doors for an evening centered around this little girl, her story, and one more opportunity to help.

Mae — lovingly known as Birdie — recently celebrated her first birthday. The very next day, her family received news that changed everything.

Mae was diagnosed with SURF1 Leigh syndrome, a rare mitochondrial disease caused by a mutation in her SURF1 gene.

And the reason her story needs to be told now is incredibly urgent.

Leigh syndrome is progressive and life-limiting. There is currently no cure. Without an effective treatment, Mae is not expected to survive this disease.

But there is hope.

A groundbreaking gene therapy for children with SURF1 Leigh syndrome is advancing toward human clinical trials. The treatment has already been developed and is moving through toxicology studies — one of the final steps before a clinical trial can begin.

If the necessary funding is secured, a human clinical trial could begin as early as 2027.

This isn’t simply about improving Mae’s quality of life.

This is a fight to give Mae a life to live.

And if this therapy is successful, what is being fought for today could reach far beyond Mae and change the future for other children and families facing this disease.

On September 24, Mae and her mom and dad won’t physically be here with us.

They’ll be in Texas, meeting with the research team working toward the very treatment we’re raising money to help move forward.

They’ll be exactly where they need to be.

And while Mae and her parents are there, we’ll be here at home doing what we can — raising funds, carrying Mae’s story farther, and covering this little girl and her family in prayer.

They’ll be doing their part there. We’ll be doing ours here.

And together, we’ll keep fighting for Mae.

So on Thursday, September 24, from 5–8 PM, we invite you to join us for An Evening for Mae.

There is no ticket and no admission. Just come.

Come shop. Bring a friend. Learn Mae’s story. Give if you are able. Share her story. Pray with us. Or simply come and stand alongside a family fighting for their little girl.

Throughout the store, we’ll share photographs and pieces of Mae’s story, along with opportunities to give directly toward the research working to bring this treatment to children like Mae.

For the evening, Serene&Silk will donate 20% of all sales toward Mae’s fight.

We’re also creating a limited number of special Made for Mae hats and pullovers. They will be released at 5 PM on September 24, both in store and online, so those who cannot be with us in Effingham can still participate.

100% of the profits from every Made for Mae piece will be donated.

And there is something pretty incredible happening with the money raised.

Qualifying donations are being matched dollar for dollar through the end of September.

An incredibly generous donor has committed to matching donations to One Shot to Live, meaning the impact of what we are able to send can be doubled.

$25 can become $50.
$100 can become $200.
$500 can become $1,000.

Every purchase, every donation, every share, every prayer, and every person who learns Mae’s name matters.

Our hope for September 24 is simply to add our hands to the many already carrying this family.

To tell Mae’s story to someone who hasn’t heard it yet.

To give people another opportunity to help.

To pray.

And to send as much as we possibly can toward the research that could give Mae — and children like her — something they desperately need:

Time.

If you cannot join us in person, you can still be part of the evening.

The Made for Mae pieces will be available online beginning at 5 PM. You can give directly. You can share this event. You can tell someone about Mae. You can pray.

Because we never know who a shared post might reach.

It may reach someone who gives $10.

It may reach someone who gives $10,000.

It may reach someone who stops and prays for Mae.

Or it may simply reach one more person willing to carry her story a little farther.

A little family update we simply had to share with our Serene&Silk family. 💕🌿

Our beautiful niece, Pierce, is here — and goodness, are we already in love with this little girl. 🤍

If you’ve been with Serene&Silk for a while, you know our Destanee and our Braya girl. They were there before we ever opened our first doors, they were there the day we finally did, and they’ve been part of the heartbeat of this story ever since.

And if you’re newer here and have absolutely no idea who we’re talking about — this is part of us. 🤍

Life has taken them to North Carolina, so you don’t get to see their faces around here nearly as often anymore, but they will forever be our girls. And I know there are SO many of you who have known and loved Des right along with us over the years.

So of course we had to introduce you to the newest little girl in our family. 💗

Our sweet goddaughter Braya is officially a BIG SISTER, Destanee is now mama to two beautiful girls, and Kolby is officially very outnumbered. 🥹

And this is our Pierce. 🤍

We could not be more in love with this family or happier to watch it grow.

Welcome to the world, sweet girl. Aunt Serena & Uncle Jordan love you more than you know.

From our family to the Serene&Silk family — meet Pierce. 💕🌿

Maybe this is what shopping small is really all about. 🤍

A place where you can come in, take your time, try something on, ask for an honest opinion and feel completely at home while you’re here.

The clothes are what bring you through the door, but these little moments are what make Serene&Silk Serene&Silk.

We’re here 10–2 today. 🤎

Of course all of my taste comes from the one and only Mama Gloria. 🤍

This entire look is Serene&Silk, and this is actually something we’ve been helping with more and more lately — senior pictures, engagement photos, family photos… all of those moments you’re going to frame and keep.

When I dress someone for photos, I’m always thinking about what you’ll still want hanging on your walls years from now. Timeless over trendy. Something that flatters your silhouette. Maybe a little texture or a subtle mix of patterns, but never so much that the clothes become the picture.

If you have photos coming up and have absolutely no idea what to wear, come see me. Let me dress you. 🤍

And since Dad made the photo too — meet Rodney. 😂 Mama Gloria + Rodney are two of the people behind the scenes who have listened to the crying, the worry, the “what do I do?” texts and everything in between while letting me chase this dream.

So really, you guys can thank them for helping keep me somewhat sane. 😂🤍

🚨 Tomorrow, our community has somewhere really important to be. ❤️🙏🏻

If this event slipped past you or you haven’t heard what tomorrow has turned into, I wanted to make sure it made its way onto our page.

Venue 720 Productions has been such an important part of our community, you already know how much we love our dear Laila Smith, and now they’re using this night to help rally our community around Mae’s Miracle.

Mae Buzzard was diagnosed with Leigh Syndrome just after her first birthday, and her family is in a race to raise the funds needed to give Mae a chance at life-changing gene therapy. It is an enormous goal — one that no family could ever reach alone — and people all across our area have been stepping up to help carry it with them. ❤️

And if there is one thing I know about this community, it’s that we know how to SHOW UP.

So tomorrow, Saturday, August 29, the Central Illinois Truck Convoy is taking over the Effingham County Fairgrounds in Altamont with live music from Wes Bayliss + Laila Smith, trucks, food and an evening together — and admission is completely FREE. Gates open at 5 PM. Instead of purchasing a ticket, they’re asking those who are able to consider making a goodwill donation to Mae’s Miracle.

I’ll be at Serene&Silk from 10–2 tomorrow, and when we close up, Jordan and I, along with family and friends, are heading over to spend the evening there too.

Serene&Silk has had the privilege of dressing Laila, and we have a few more things planned to support Mae’s Miracle ourselves — but this is one of those times when sharing the information and simply showing up matters too.

Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring a lawn chair. Come listen to some really good music, enjoy the evening and, if you’re able, help this family get one step closer to giving their little girl the chance they are fighting so incredibly hard for.

5 PM tomorrow • Effingham County Fairgrounds • Altamont, IL

No tickets. No admission fee. Just a community coming together for Mae. ❤️🙏🏻

Friday morning at Serene&Silk 🤎

The store is full of new arrivals, a few favorite restocks + an entirely new line of jewelry that I cannot wait for you to see in person.

This season I’m loving jewelry a little bolder — mixed metals, beautiful stones, longer layers, chunky beads and pieces that can completely change the direction of an outfit. Wear one on its own or start stacking and layering them together.

And there is SO much new tucked throughout the store right now — fall textures, lace, suede, beautiful bags and pieces to start building those first fall outfits around.

We’re here 10–5 today and would love to spend part of your Friday with you. 🤎

See you downtown!
Big love,
Serena

Spend a random Wednesday with me 🤎

In between taking care of you girls in store, there were orders to pack + ship, an in-store pickup to get ready, an outfit change somewhere in the middle, trash to take out, things to clean and organize, and tomorrow’s shipments to start preparing for.

And because I can’t help myself… a little sneak peek at what’s coming next. 👀

Nothing particularly glamorous — just a regular Wednesday behind the doors of Serene&Silk. And one I’m incredibly thankful for.

Whether you hung out with me in the store today, placed an order from miles away, watched a story or simply followed along from your phone — thank you for being here and letting me do this.

Big love,
Serena 🤎

THE LONG WAY HOME

There’s a difference between buying an outfit and building a wardrobe.

Some of the pieces here you already recognize — our genuine upper leather mules, a 100% suede Tucker Tweed wristlet and one of our vintage belts. They’re wardrobe builders. The pieces that stay with you season after season and continue to tell a different story depending on what you put beside them.

Today, we’re building around them.

Our brand-new Westerly Denim Pants and Denim + Suede Pearl Snap Jacket become the foundation of this look, while our new neck twill and statement marble heart necklace bring in those smaller, collected details that can completely change the way familiar pieces feel.

And that is really the story behind The Long Way Home.

It isn’t about buying an entirely new wardrobe every season. It’s about choosing pieces intentionally — mixing something new with the staples already hanging in your closet, layering textures, adding an unexpected accessory, and creating a look that feels current without losing the timelessness that allows you to wear it again and again.

A wardrobe built over time.
A look that feels entirely your own.

The Westerly Denim Pants, Denim + Suede Pearl Snap Jacket, new neck twills and statement marble heart necklace arrive in store + online today at 10 AM.
