Every custom piece begins with an idea... and a wood burner.

Before the paint ever touches the leather, each design is carefully burned in by hand. The pyrography creates the foundation, giving every flower, stem, and detail depth and permanence before color begins to bring it to life.

This is one of my favorite stages of the process. It's where a simple pair of Lane Boots begins its transformation into wearable art.

Lane Boots are beautiful right out of the box. Their craftsmanship and timeless style speak for themselves. But as an artist, I see each pair as a canvas with a story waiting to be told.

These Midnight Navy Emma Jane boots are still a work in progress, but I wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at the journey. Every layer of paint builds on the last, slowly transforming a beautiful boot into a one-of-a-kind piece that can never be duplicated.

When we announced becoming a retail partner with Lane Boots, I knew it wouldn't be long before I started customizing my own pair.

These are my personal Emma Jane Boots in Midnight Navy Suede, and from the very first moment I saw them, I knew they were destined to become my next wearable art project.

Now, let me be clear... Lane Boots are absolutely stunning just as they are. Their incredible craftsmanship, luxurious materials, iconic turquoise soles, and beautiful designs are made to stand out the moment you take them out of the box.

But as an artist, I see the world as my canvas.
The Emma Jane wasn't just a beautiful boot to me, it was a perfectly crafted wearable canvas waiting for my own creative touch.

That's one of the things I love most about Lane Boots. They offer so many gorgeous styles that can be worn exactly as they are, or, if you're like me, they can become something even more personal. Whether it's branding, pyrography, hand painting, or other artistic embellishments, these boots are built to become a reflection of the person wearing them.

So I've started transforming mine with hand-painted florals and a tribute to one of my favorite country songs—a lyric that has become a bit of a motto for me:

"From my roots to my boots." 🎶

This is only the beginning, and I can't wait to share the finished pair with you.

📣 Big News From Our Hat Bar Family!

When we started our business, we chose the name OIBX Hat-Tats because we wanted to honor our Inner Banks roots (IBX) while also letting folks know we proudly serve the Outer Banks (OBX).

What we've learned over the past several months is that while the meaning is special to us, the name has caused a lot of confusion. We spend more time explaining what OIBX means than talking about what we actually do!

So, to make things simpler and easier for customers to find and remember us, we're officially simplifying our name to:

🤠 OBX Hat-Tats

Don't worry—nothing else is changing. We're still the same owners, the same custom hat experience, the same wearable art, and the same passion for helping you create something uniquely yours.

Our roots will always be in the Inner Banks, and our heart will always be in serving the Outer Banks and beyond. This change simply helps us connect with more people and makes it easier for everyone to know who we are.

Thank you for supporting us on this journey. We can't wait to continue helping you create hats as wild and unique as the people who wear them.
