TumbleWeft

TumbleWeft I am a cottage industry with over 20 years experience as a self employed artist.

Most of my work at the moment is commission orders in the $65-$135 range (scarves). My website is under construction at the moment and I will be expanding my products from scarves to shawls, wraps, blankets, small pouches, bags and beautiful bands for hats. I hope you will check in as my business grows and perhaps become one of my customers.

Remember? Man the other 10” loom that makes an 8” potholder is stellar. 100% cotton loops, machine washable, and durable. I got mine from Purl Soho. But you can also go directly to Harrisville loom. I like the metal loom.

My beautiful daughter in law requested a rug from me. So I’m working on it in bits and pieces in between working outside during the pandemic. I had to pull out my largest loom to get the length she wanted. And then gerry-rig the tension rod with rubber bands to get the narrow width (18” x 47”). Using mop yarn and jelly rolls.

My daughter moved back east where we raised her, a couple of months ago, after spending 4 wonderful years with us here in NORCAL. She sent me this lovely photo of her this morning wearing a winter scarf I made that she had requested several years ago. She wanted it LONG and WIDE for those cold blustery days back in Baltimore. It’s like visiting an old friend to see it again. And takes the sting out of missing her just a little. 💖💋

My first rug loom which is the largest (25”x41.5”) uses finishing nails as the pegs. Later I bought my most used and loved loom from LibbyLuLa. Her husband makes them, adjustable, and a beautiful stand to make it more ergonomic to work on, and it uses wooden pegs which is so much nicer. Here’s her FB page. Her rugs are more traditionally made from rags and sheets. I went thru all the rags I had with my first rug! It takes a lot of yardage. So now I buy fabric and jelly rolls at a great online resource. This allows me to do rugs in the colors a friend or client might like to have. But I’m always still on the hunt for sheets and other sources. I keep my prices consistent and if I spend more or less on materials, the price is set. Because I’m not a brick and mortar I am not afforded wholesale prices from suppliers. I won’t pay my mortgage, but it brings me joy and keeps my hands busy.

It’s easy to make your own loom, but if you find it’s a craft of choice then investing in a LibbyLuLa Loom is money well spent.
