HARD TO SAY. EASY TO WEAR.

How do you say it? We get asked everyday, "how do you pronounce Ouray?" The origin of the word comes from the great Ute Indian Chief, Ouray, which in his language is pronounced "oor-ray". However, the local townspeople of Ouray, Colorado pronounce it "you-RAY" or "yer-Ay", while here in the building we typically say "your-Ay".

No matter how you say it, we will not be offended. We know it is hard to say, but easy to wear.

HISTORY OF OURAY

In 1965, Bill Musselman followed his passion for winter sports and established a ski accessory business, called Ski Country Imports, based out of his garage in Englewood, Colorado. SCI serviced ski resorts throughout the Rocky Mountains. The company continued to grow and in the 1980's SCI purchased it's first embroidery machine and began to decorate baseball caps. In the 90's, SCI launched a full apparel line, including fleece vests, sweatshirts and tees. As a result, SCI launched its new brand, Ouray Sportswear in 1998. The new brand continued to meet the demands of the destination and resort industries. Four years later, in 2002, Ouray Sportswear entered the Collegiate market. By the end of the decade, Ouray Sportswear’s ability to ship on time and fast reorders matches its excellence in apparel and headwear design. The company continues to grow quickly and more than double revenue while entering the Corporate Market in 2012 and the Golf market in 2013.
