These ease of shopping at a specialty shop comes from seeing the items we’ve purchased and curated together. No hassle in looking for items to pair with other pieces as we show them together.
From this Carmel Jean in Malibu Red pairs beautifully with the Ansel Top Shelf Button Down in Petal. Put a pair of the Boardwalk Woven Flip Flop in wheat, and our braided belt and you’ve got a great outfit.
In picture 2, I’ve paired Nassau Short in Chrome back to their Kayce short sleeve camp shirt in Lapis. Here I’ve added the Cameron leather sneaker in slate, as well as another gray/white braided stretch belt.
All outfits are easy and interchangeable.
And of course gift wrapping is complimentary.

Come join our team, of two!
Yes, we are truly a small town “mom and pop” mens shop and women’s boutique in the historic town of Essex, Connecticut. We are currently seeking someone to primarily assist Amy in our women’s department, but is open to learning and assisting in our mens department as well.
A little about us: our business is old school- computers in the office, but the “front of the house” is run by pen and paper!
We strive to learn about our clients and treat them like family- the old school way.
Interested individuals should be fashionable, personable, honest, friendly, and down to earth, yet ready to roll up their sleeves for any task. Social media experience a plus. The schedule would consist of at least 3 mid week days and one alternating weekend day.

The calendar says March. Almost spring. We’re teased every few days with 55/60 degrees, yet in reality it’s still winter. But what do you do when it’s still cold yet you’re tired of your darker clothing?Lighten your “color palette”.
This winter I have continuously stocked these beautiful lambswool/cashmere 1/4 zip sweaters from Italy. Produced by my friends , the best part is when we need more sizes, they are stocked close by in Meriden, CT. And although it’s a slightly more substantial sweater, the colors still work back to your spring shades.
I’ve paired these sweaters with our new IAN OXFORD SPORTSHIRT for a warm, yet spring look that can take you right through to Easter.

We love dressing our clients to live their best life! Here our friend and client Mike , office manager of Essex, is set for a rehearsal dinner after party on Kiawah Island. I just love it when our vendors like share the same values as I do.
We all have the tendency to acquire “stuff” that we think might be cool to own and is trending, but by the next year we reassess these pieces and they make their way to the bin.
Let’s make 2025 about purchasing high quality pieces that we love and will work back to other quality pieces that we already own. Less is more.

Amy and I may not have the opportunities to do a lot of traveling but it’s great to see our clients getting away- as well as taking a piece of J. Alden with them.

Sure, like any good retailer I love showing you our newest and most interesting pieces of clothing in the shop. But in reality, 9 times out of 10 most of the messages I receive are from guys- and women more impressed by the way the pieces have been coordinated.
Take today for example: It’s a cold blustery day in New England and personally I was more focused on being warm and comfortable than wearing our latest and greatest.
Hence, I probably should be embarrassed, but everything I’m wearing is at least 5 years old or more. Yet I think it all still looks decent, but more importantly, coordinated.
