These are important things we must understand before I give more information.

1. These are not boxes but rather suggested parameters.
The lines between these business models need to be treated like the rope lane dividers in swimming pools.. They can float and shift. Sometimes, because of a client's needs, sometimes because of a manufacturing challenge.
2. Most of us will not fit into one business model 100% of the time. 70-80% still qualifies as falling within that business model.
3. Some of us swing between more than one of these business models. Some feel most comfortable in the in-between spaces.
4. This should be treated as a tool to help us clarify that our practices and prices are realistic so that we are not cheating our clients or ourselves. I see a lot of discussion around charging our worth, but the main business model raising their prices is the fast affordable, which, while it requires experience, it requires the least amount of expertise and knowledge.

My next 3 videos will dive deeper into each business model, including the average hourly sewing rate. This rate is NOT "profit margin". This rate needs to cover all of the non sewing things that have to be done to run a business as well, not just the sewing time.

This is my personal research, and I know there are outliers. These aren't boxes to shove any sewist into. They are parameters for us to... *communicate clearly
*address the imbalances
*stop comparing Apples & Meatloaf

There are businesses claiming to be all of the above, but the reviews and numbers do not support that. It's likely because of how unrealistic it is not because they are taking advantage. However, there are businesses taking advantage of brides, and we also need something like this to hold those using predatory practices accountable.

How could we come together, embrace our diversity, and thrive alongside one another?

Today in the US, bridal alterations range from $150 - $3,000+.
The average range in the 80s and 90s was $50 - $700.

Why the drastic increase? Is it because sewists got greedy?
Some bridal alterations specialists are making bank while others leave the industry after years of failing to reach a livable wage. Is it because some of them are good at this, and some of them are bad?

We are prioritizing different things. Some of us prioritize speed, some prioritize quality, while others prioritize finding a happy middle ground.

Those prioritizing quality craftsmanship have to charge significantly more, especially with today's much more complex gowns.
Those prioritizing speed see those quality prices that are 3, 4, and 5 times higher, and they raise their prices without improving the quality of their work.
Capitalism rewards this behavior, so those businesses that are using predatory practices are raking in record profits while those trying to provide skilled professional results are leaving the industry in mass every year.
Eventually, brides will have 1 option. Grossly overpriced low quality work.
