It's hard for me to say this without going against what I believe and have been taught.
I've always been taught you don't give to be noticed or for something in return.
I one hundred percent believe that.
But, I also need to say what I'm going to say. I want to say upfront, don't read this and hesitate to ask for donations....because this is not at all what I'm saying.
Since we have opened, I personally haven't turned down one person asking for a donation. We do gift cards. Some of our businesses in our store are in a place where they can do that, some aren't.
To date just since we rang in 2025 we have donated over 3k in gift cards. Last year many of our businesses raised money for local charities through their sales or through their events.
What I'm saying is...many small businesses in town give back to their community and you all continue to support big chains as your #1 go to. That's your choice. It's not like there isn't a need for them too.
But, I have an important question....have you asked THEM for a donation to your local charity?
When you check out at a big retailer do you ask for a discount?
Probably not.
I've witnessed people asking for discounts on items reduced lower than we paid wholesale for. True story.
I've heard people say, check online we can probably find something like this for less.
If you haven't been in our shop...we are far from tone deaf to what our economy has looked like for the past several years and our prices show it. We don't mark our items up the way we could.
We love our little shop and we will continue to love and support our community.
Now, the burning questions....
Did you ask Temu, Shein, or any big box shops for a donation or discount when you checked out?
Will you think to shop local first?
When you write someone for a donation, will you consider coming in person?
When you come in for a donation will you check your brain and not say things like. Oh, I didn't even know this place existed and then not even look at a thing while skipping off to Target?
