No Wednesday Treasures today but instead I want to talk about a national treasure…

Seeing flags at half mast this past week for Dolly Parton was a wonderful testament to her loving character and beautiful soul. I believe Bob Hope was the last entertainer to be nationally honored in that way.

In addition to her many talents, Dolly was a very successful businesswoman. She shared several good pieces of business advice through interviews over the years.

Dolly managed and expanded her fortune by smartly surrounding herself with very good people. She knew her worth, famously denying Elvis Presley publishing rights when he wanted to record “I Will Always Love You.” She stayed true to her brand/image while wisely building multiple revenue streams.

Most importantly Dolly claimed she wasn’t driven by financial gain but by what good her wealth could do for others. This was evident in her numerous altruistic endeavors. It will be interesting to see what she bequeathed to charitable organizations.

Flags like this one at my dad’s house go back to full staff today but I know we will long remember Dolly’s legacy. Indeed September 25th (9-25) is being designated in many places as Dolly Parton day.

Hooray for the start of the -Ber months!

With the new season, we are making a slight change to our Fall hours at both Festoons & Filigree and The In Between Mercantile:

🍁 On Thursdays and Fridays we are open 10-2 and Saturdays are now 10-3 🍁

Of course we are also happy to schedule other times by appointment for private shopping. Perfect for groups, friends and family outings or a solo treat.

Good morning! Put the coffee on because Monday Morning Kitchen Talk is BACK!

Join me LIVE at 10 AM Central this morning. It’s been a while, and I have a LOT to show you—and plenty to talk about.

First, the goodies…

I brought home some of the best pieces from my weekend at Stone Valley Vintage Market, and before I return them to the stores, I’m giving you first crack at them. Even better, I’m making real-time markdowns on many of them during the Live.

I also managed to do a little picking so I have a few newly found treasures to show you too.

Then we’ll TALK.

The In Between Mercantile has been open for almost two months now. I’ll share some thoughts about these first weeks and what we have planned for September. It includes an upcoming sourcing trip that should bring plenty of fresh finds our way.

Perfect Saturday ahead…you determine the order that works best for you.

Visit the stonevalleyvintage market in nearby Pleasant Hope from 9-3. We will have a booth there (look for our yellow tent) along with other great vendors bringing you crafts, clothing, fall decor and much more plus good things to eat.
