Fun fact: raffia yarn originally comes from raffia palm leaves 🌿

It’s loved for a reason — natural raffia is lightweight, sturdy, flexible, biodegradable, and has that beautiful organic texture.

That’s why raffia is so popular for bags, hats, baskets, and summer accessories.

But working with natural raffia is definitely not the easiest.

It’s tougher on the hands, less stretchy than regular yarn, and takes a lot more patience to work with.

And somehow… that’s exactly why I love it 🤎
But there are a lot of different ‘raffia’ yarns today.
Some versions are synthetic or blended to imitate the look, and the difference is usually in the texture, softness, durability, and overall feel.

I choose natural raffia or rayon raffia for my projects.
It’s one of those materials where quality truly matters — especially in handmade pieces.
I already have a small collection of raffia Japanese knot bags, and lately I’ve been working on a new collection that I’ll be sharing very soon 💕
