Caught Dead Threads Bridal and formal wear gown alterations and tailoring.

I'm the owner of Caught Dead Threads Sewing and Alterations, a self taught seamstress with a BFA in Fashion Design from Wayne State University in Detroit. I love repurposing used clothing you wouldn't be caught dead wearing by ripping it apart and bringing it back to life in a new design, I call this Thrift Store Couture. Currently I work from home doing clothing alterations, custom sewing and specializing in bridal wear and special occasion gowns.

Your dress matters — and so does how it’s altered. Now booking appointments in July for October weddings and beyond, come see me in my In my Farmington Hills home studio. During your fitting we can discuss three fixes that will protect the integrity, design and comfort of your gown: 1) Bustles—clean, secure types that keep your train intact; 2) Seam let-out/let-in—gain or reduce inches without changing the silhouette; 3) Hem balancing—even hems that preserve the gown’s fall. I offer judgment-free, personalized consultations to keep you calm and confident on your day. Want to book a try-on or ask a question, DM me for details or check out my website and submit a booking inquiry at caughtdeadthreads.com 💍✂️📍

Wellllll sh*tttttt..... you know it's been an exceptionally busy and rough bridal/prom season when this happens. The needle hit a large hidden bead in a side seam. The needle bent, destroyed the needle plate and took a chunk out of the bobbin case, shatteted the needle too, scared the crap out of me. Bad timing as I still have gowns that are due next week to finish. Kudos to my boyfriend for fixing things up enough to get me by until the new parts come in.

Three small changes, one big difference for your wedding day. I love helping brides by altering gowns that fit the moment—and their bodies—perfectly. Convertible sleeves that add coverage for the ceremony and come off for the reception. Added corsetry for structure that keeps you comfortable and confident all night. Bespoke embellishment placement that highlights your best angles and makes the dress uniquely yours. I work from a welcoming home studio where every alteration is handled with care and craft—real brides have told me the fit, comfort, and attention to detail made their day feel effortless. Ready to try something tailored just for you?

Sometimes calling in the back up team (my children) to help with the big projects is a must. This week we spent 20 collaborative hours hand sewing delicate beaded lace appliques onto the train of a gown!! I bribed them with a Five Nights at Freddy's movie marathon as part of their compensation.

At my Caught Dead Threads home studio, I aim to create a calm, judgment-free space where you can breathe, relax and trust the fitting process. As a small, female-owned studio and LGBTQIA+ ally in Farmington Hills, your voice and vision matters.
We will discuss what changes need to be made to your gown in order to achieve the fit you want, as well as any design changes or custom additions.
I will walk you through each appointment with care so your fittings will feel relaxed resulting in less alteration anxiety, clearer decisions in the moment, and garments altered to last—especially for brides and formalwear that deserve to be preserved. Come as you are, bring the dress that matters, and let’s make it fit like it’s meant to. 💕🧵✨

I am now in my slow season, which allows me to reassess, clean and organize the studio, and give away unused items. I am grateful for the slower pace of life and the ability to devote more time to personal relationships as well as catching up on some well needed self care. If you come to my studio just ignore the ongoing mess as I'm in the process of changing things up around here.

I am still actively booking appointments and now is a great time to get on my schedule to take care of all of those little sewing projects that you have been putting off or pre book your appointments for all of your upcoming events for next year. After the beginning of the New Year work starts to pick up pretty fast and likewise my schedule fills up quickly.

Feel free to share my information with anyone you know who is in the planning stages of getting married in 2026. Waiting until the last minute to get on the schedule results in unneeded rush fees so book early!!
