Getting started: an evening of putting words on the page
May 14, 6-8pm
Getting started is often the hardest part of writing.
“I need to sit down and write that piece about growing up in rural Maine,” you may think, or, “I’d like to write some poetry, but don’t know how to begin.”
In this class, we’ll begin.
Depending on the genre (fiction, memoir, or poetry), in our time together we’ll explore some tools of the trade.
• We’ll start with your inner critic: what stops us from starting, or sabotages the momentum
• Process: how to bypass obstacles and open to creativity
• How to cultivate story with key aspects of strong writing
• Genre considerations, based on class participants
• Leave the class with at least one piece started, and tips on next steps
Getting started is suitable for a range of writers, from beginnersto folks who have published work but may want a bit of structure, or a jolt of inspiration.
This class is facilitated by educator, author, and professional counselor, Tara Moyle from Wilton. Cost is $20. To register, contact Wears & Wares at 778-0262 or message here.
