A Note to Everyone
*cue ālong post aheadā warning*
I wanted to emphasize a couple of points from my last two posts:
1. My job is indeed stressful.
2. Iām not a robot.
3. Iām not going anywhere.
To start,
What you think I do compared to what I actually do is surprisingly different.
One of the biggest misconceptions in the bridal industry is that alterations are merely āone last stepā in wedding planning. But actually, alterations hold a gigantic significance in the entirety of the wedding. They are what truly determines whether a gown fits, flatters, and functions as it should throughout the day.
Unfortunately, other bridal shops give brides unrealistic expectations regarding alterations just to make the sale. Such as the cost, the type of alterations that can be done, the number of fittings required, and what can be accomplished in a certain timeframe.
As a bridal seamstress, I am entrusted with the final fit of the most important garment many women will ever wear, I donāt take it lightly. This responsibility deserves recognition, respect, and a realistic understanding of what it entails.
I understand that itās not rocket science. However, I also work in an emotionally charged field. I can be a confidante for brides, mothers, bridesmaids, and others. Quite often, I even become an easy target for individuals who are already stressed and frustrated with wedding preparations.
The purpose of this message isnāt to complain about my job or my clients (seriously, donāt take it that way). Itās simply to provide some insight into my day-to-day.
Iāve assisted hundreds of clients (no exaggeration) and have been fortunate to be part of many special moments filled with happy tears! Yet, amidst all the joy, there have been challenges along the way. I have made mistakes. Plenty. Of. Them. Providing such a unique, intimate and emotionally driven service is demanding. On top of that, Iām STILL learning. Everyday. And I can honestly say I have always acknowledged my errors and worked to correct them. Iām human (definitely not AI š
), I get frustrated too. And even though I fix my mistakes if they arise, you can bet I still fester on each one of them when my head hits the pillow at night. I pour my heart into every garment, and when things go wrong, I feel it deeply.
I wonāt hide my flaws and the mistakes Iāve made while learning. I am honest and I hope you can see just how much I care.
Being a small business in a small town, can be extremely uplifting or it can be the exact opposite. Itās disheartening when an entrepreneur takes a risk (especially in the dying field of sewing and alterations) and faces unnecessary gossip or slander. Iām just a girl who knows how to sew and wants to help others. If you want to spin that into something negative then have at it, I guess.
So, to those who have entrusted me with such a significant part of your special day, thank you.
To those are considering choosing me as your seamstress, trust your gut. Iām really not going to sugarcoat it. I would love to help you achieve that perfect fit and I have loads of happy customers who would back me.
But if youād rather go somewhere else, then do it. Thereās a few other local seamstresses who are amazing! Hereās the deal though, I wonāt tear you down for not choosing me. I wonāt spread rumors about you, mostly because Iām a good person, but also considering weāve probably never even worked together anyway, I have no actual ground to speak on about you. I hope you can consider the same when you speak about me.
This even goes beyond the business world. Seriously, can we just do better as humans at being kind?
I really do love this job but Iām not a robot, so Iām bound to mess up a time or two and remember, if you choose me as your seamstress, youāve chosen someone who genuinely cares. Behind every āsimple fixā is someone who has poured their heart into every stitch.
Last but not least, just be kind.
