How it all began...
Texas Hills Leather is a family business run by Sara and Nick Dowell with the “help” of their two children, Jason and Taylor. The family will welcome a baby girl in October!
For as long as he can remember, Nick has been creating things. As a kid, he never went anywhere without his sketchbook. As a very young teen, he took on the daunting project of completely putting together a Volkswagen after purchasing it for $200 because he was determined to have a vehicle once he started driving. As he got older, this led him to build furniture and learn leatherwork.
Nick is a disabled veteran after serving two tours in Iraq. He spent some time offshore after his return from the military but needed to be home with his family when Jason began having severe seizures at the age of 4. In the years since, Jason has endured two brain surgeries. He’s made a remarkable recovery and is no longer having seizures. Sara and Nick feel it’s important to give back, so they will donate $1 for every item purchased in their shop to the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas.
At Texas Hills Leather you’ll find handcrafted purses, leather jewelry, men and women’s wallets, gun holsters, hatchet and knife sheaths, custom-sized belts, and leather notebook portfolios. All our leather and supplies are locally sourced in the USA. We also carry local custom metal signs and decor made by Ken and Laurie Marple from Remuda Custom Metal Works, in addition to Adirondack chairs from the Wimberley Chair Company. We plan to add more local vendors as we expand our business. If there’s something in our shop that you don’t see that you would like created, just let us know! We’re happy to bring your ideas to life!
