Pink Ribbon is owned and operated by Bev Ramsey, a two time breast cancer survivor. Bev had a lumpectomy in 2003 and chose no treatment. In 2006 she had a reoccurrence and chose a bilateral mastectomy as opposed to a unilateral. She didn’t want the chance it would return in the other breast. She had 8 chemo treatments and 25 radiation treatment. On the twentieth radiation treatment she noticed swe

lling and found out she had lymphedema in her right arm and hand. That was not good considering her profession, at the time, was accounting and management. She has learned to manage the lymphedema but she will tell you it definitely is a challenge! Pink Ribbon provides a full line of post-mastectomy products that allows us to solely cater to women after a breast cancer diagnosis and surgery, including Radical mastectomy to Reconstruction. Our staff of licensed, professional American Board for Certification or BOC Certified Fitters, have years of expertise in fittings of post-surgical camisoles, breast forms, mastectomy bras, compression garments, and other mastectomy apparel. We carry every major brand of breast forms available, which will allow us to accurately fit you to perfection. We also have hundreds of bras styles to work with you that will meet or exceed your personal requests.

One of our ladies shared this and it’s so true. 20 years later, besides age, I still can not do the things I use to. What cancer didn’t take lymphedema did. But God gave me new things. One of those is Pink Ribbon and you wonderful ladies.

Yesterday, I went to the beach with my family.

It was beautiful. The kind of beautiful that makes you stop and remember how lucky you are to live near turquoise water and white sand.

We packed the cooler, made food, loaded the chairs, set the alarms, and left early to avoid the worst of the Florida heat.

For a while, it was exactly what I needed.

Peace. Waves. My family fishing. The beach I love.

But cancer changes what a “good day” costs.

The sun felt hotter than it used to. The walk through the sand took more out of me than I expected. The beach got crowded, loud, and overwhelming. I stayed longer than I should have because my family was having such a good time, and I did not want to be the reason we left early.

By the time we packed up, walked back through the thick sand, rinsed off, changed in hot bathrooms with no air, and drove an hour and a half home, I was completely drained.

Then last night, I barely slept.

This morning, I woke up feeling like I had been hit by a truck. My neck, shoulders, back, hip, and foot all hurt. My body feels heavy. My energy is gone. I feel decades older than I am. And I cried because before cancer, a day like that would not have taken this much from me.

That is one of the realities of survivorship.

People see the beach pictures. The family memories. The proof that you are out living life again.

They do not always see the price you pay afterward.

Sometimes one good day costs you the next one.

And as grateful as I am to still be here, I hate that cancer changed the way my body recovers from joy.
