What started as a small grass fire has quickly grown into one of the most significant wildfires North Texas has seen in recent years. As of this morning, the fire has burned approximately 80,000 acres and is reported to be 12% contained as hundreds of firefighters continue battling extreme heat, dry conditions, and shifting winds.

Evacuation orders remain in effect in portions of Jack County, particularly around FM 4, Barton Chapel Road (FM 2210), and surrounding areas. In Palo Pinto County, residents north of Fortune Bend Road to Highway 16 North at FM 337 have been strongly encouraged to evacuate as conditions remain unpredictable. More than 600 households have been impacted by evacuation efforts.

For ranchers and livestock owners who have been displaced, large animal sheltering is available at the Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Grounds, 2251 Mineral Wells Highway in Weatherford. Evacuees can also access shelter assistance through the Twin Lakes Recreation Center in Jacksboro.

Many families have been forced to move cattle, horses, and other animals with little notice. If you know someone affected, please reach out and check on them. Rural communities are incredibly resilient, but times like these remind us how important neighbors helping neighbors can be.

There are several ways to support those on the front lines:
• Water and sports drinks can be donated through Clear Fork Bank in Mineral Wells.
• Large bottled water donations can be delivered to Dempsey Airport.
• The Jack County Rural Fire Department is accepting bottled water, electrolyte drinks, protein bars, jerky, and grab-and-go snacks for firefighters working long shifts.
• Financial contributions can be made directly to support Palo Pinto County ESD #1 and ongoing emergency response efforts.

Thank you to the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency management teams, volunteers, ranchers, and community members working around the clock to protect lives, homes, livestock, and property. Please continue to pray for rain, for the safety of first responders, and for everyone who has been forced to evacuate.
