Today marks a year of finding out about 's craniophyrangioma. He picked this song - So, So, Good (I encourage y'all to listen to all of the words) by Phil Wickham (who he met at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ) and for that I am SO grateful. Grateful that he sees (and chooses to remember) so much good in this past year, so much that God has revealed to him and to us - forever part of his and our testimony. And, I (and we) are SO, SO grateful. ❤️ So grateful for you, for prayers, for the love and support and medical doctors, nurses and child life specialists surrounding him both at St. Jude and at Cook. ❤️But, I'll never forget, on this day a year ago, the ER doc at Cook walking in and asking us to come outside the doors to talk with him and to look at his scans. I'll never forget the gut punch and how the whole world seemed to stand still as his words turned in to mumbling as everything became a blur. But, I also remember the calm, clarity and sheer fight I resolved to have before walking back in those doors and facing my little boy. My beautiful, brave . In one moment - I had both feelings - fear and faith. Faith won, and our faith and our God continues to show us that he will fight for . I pray daily for healing and for god to use each of us for good, and I do believe he's doing the work that only he can do. I often wondered why God gave me so much fight, so much "give a damn"(as one colleague called it) - whether on the basketball court, in the classroom or in my professional and personal life or, now, on my kids' sports teams. I was and am always willing to stand up for those hurt, those wronged (and it really irritates me quite frankly when ppl aren't accountable and/or rules only apply to some). Well, God - I got it. 🌟 I now know exactly why you made me the way I am, and I'm grateful for that too. One day at a time - that's enough. I'll fight for you every day, any day, . It's your time to shine, sweet boy. 🌈

He's STANDING, and SMILING! 😍 PTL 🙏🏻After 2 ER visits, admission to Cook Children's with an LP that showed opening pressure of 34 (20-25 is considered high), we hopped in the car preparing for a potential shunt surgery with 's neurosurgeon Paul Klimo Jr., MD, MPH (Dr. Klimo, our angel on earth). Got to Memphis Tuesday night, went to surgery prep at 6 AM, Dr. Klimo called around 9:30 to tell me the opening pressure was 12. What?!? Not, the 34 reading we got at Cook. Say that again. Did I hear that right?!? Yep, 12. PTL - it means that his fluid is flowing properly, pressure is good and, most importantly, NO shunt surgery. We dropped to our knees - in thanks, in tears and most of all in JOY and gratitude. God is good, friends, and we thank YOU for your endless prayers, for all of those who cared for G from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to Lebonheur Children’s Hospital to Cook Children's ❤️‍🩹. While we haven't figured out the exact cause of his headaches, we know it doesn't require surgery and we pray that continues to remain true. For now, we head back home, sort through other options to get him relief so that he lives to the fullest. What a stressful, rollercoaster of emotions, week that ended with a lot of 😄 smiles and friendships that will last a lifetime (those instant connections that fill your soul - many thanks Megan Klimo ❤️). Extra special thanks to Dr. Klimo and his family, Dr. Merchant and his fantastic nurse team - Valerie, Haley, Nikki, and Christy and to the St. Jude Art Director Amy, Sara and Sean for always bringing JOY when we see you in hard times, the Cook child life, nurse and chaplain and Dr. Delatorre.

While this is not a space nor a feeling we want to revisit, we do pray fervently for answers, comfort, relief and complete healing. And, we pray for the doctors and nurses that surround us - daily. We ask for your prayers too, dear friends. We are certain the battle belongs to HIM, and that he will bring us (more specifically, our George) through this fire as he has done before. ❤️🙏🏻🔥 We especially thank Paul Klimo Jr., MD, MPH Dr. Klimo for answering our texts and staying in constant communication with us to help our local team bring George through this. We are Klimo Klub members for LIFE, and I told him today - I wanted to pull the Klimo Kard (bc - trust me - it works!). ❤️ He will have an LP tomorrow to check pressure as he's experiencing headaches and vomitting again. Please pray for that and for his eyes (and optic nerves) - so that he preserves (and maybe even restores vision) and doesn't experience any more vision loss. 🙏🏻
