🦆 Let’s Keep Cruise Ducking Fun—and Welcome Onboard! 🚢
The recent news that Marella Cruises has banned hiding ducks got me thinking. Disney Cruise Line no longer allows it, and Royal Caribbean asks that ducks not be hidden in the plants in Central Park because people searching for them were trampling and damaging the landscaping.
Cruise lines aren’t trying to spoil our fun. They’re responding to situations where duck hiding has created extra work, caused damage, or become a safety concern.
If we want this wonderfully quacky tradition to continue, it’s up to all of us to hide responsibly:
Choose safe, easy-to-see locations. Stay out of crew areas, bathrooms, pools, water slides, play areas, and restricted spaces. Never tape or glue a duck to anything, disturb plants or decorations, or take every duck you see.
Most importantly, always follow the rules of the cruise line and the ship you’re sailing. Each cruise line has the right to decide what is permitted onboard—and respecting those rules is how we help keep duck hiding welcome on as many ships as possible.
Hide with care, find with joy, and leave plenty of quacks for the next cruiser.
