I'm posting this again this year because I think it's important to remember!!
It's Fair Week in Johnson County!
I participated in 4-H during my whole childhood and loved it. I not only know how fun and exciting it can be, but how stressful, anxiety ridden, and, unfortunately, sad it can be.
It's on your mind the weeks leading up to it. You work hard to be your best and sometimes you don't earn the ribbon. The heat can be daunting, especially when scooping stalls. You're away from home more than usual, and there's tons of people watching.
This is a gentle reminder that Fair is fun, wonderful, a great learning experience and absolutely beautiful. However, it's hard work. And they are kids. Kids who put their efforts out for the community to see.
Parents- tell your 4-H-er how proud you are of them before AND after their events. Give them that sweaty hug they so desperately need. If your kiddo is grumpy, it's ok. It's super hot but instead of being by a beach, they have to scoop p**p while their classmates walk by. We all get grumpy for much smaller reasons. Also, tell other parents how great they've been. Say a random thank you. It takes a lot of people to make it through. I know I had an entire 4-H family who helped me through it all.
Visitors- Compliment like you have never complimented before. That cake looks wonky? That's ok! The piping is AMAZING! That kid has an ornery misbehaving cow? Yeah but they are in an arena handling a giant animal. How brave and strong!!
Keep negativity out of it. Drink every ounce of water you can. Sunscreen it up. And encourage the heck out of these kids!
I know I'll be there when I can. If you see my husband working in the store this week, you bet it's because I'm scarfing down fair food while watching as many events as possible!
Repost this to spread the reminder or post something similar. Let's make great memories for the families!
I love you all!!
Hug Hug,
Kayla
