A Golden Moment, A Shared Graduation
Today, my daughter graduated high school — wearing a golden stole around her neck. After receiving the gold stole , she placed it in my hands and said, “This is your gold stole.You worked so hard for it.” That moment… it filled my heart in ways I can’t describe. I’ve often looked back and thought about the things I couldn’t do for her, the things I wish I had done better. But in that one gesture, she gave me the most beautiful result a parent could ask for — and it healed so many of those silent pains.
She’s always walked her own path with purpose. I once dreamed of her in a career where she could use her public speaking gift, maybe even rise to an executive role. But in 5th grade, she said something that changed everything: “What could be better than saving people’s lives?” That’s when our journey toward medicine began. It’s been a long road of hard work, discipline, and unwavering passion — and she never looked back.
Today, I’m so proud to share that she’s been accepted into both in-state and out-of-state BS/MD programs, and we’ve chosen the Baylor to Baylor Medical Program — just a short drive from home and relatively higher ranked Medical school than those . Most of her childhood friends are heading to UT Austin, and while that was an option, she chose a different path, one rooted deeply in her purpose.
While attending UT Austin or another pre-med program might have opened doors to even higher-ranked medical schools than Baylor , we chose the Baylor to Baylor Medical Program to give her a more focused and less stressful path over the next four years. It felt right to prioritize her well-being and peace of mind as she prepares for the demanding journey ahead.
Baylor 2 Baylor medical program is one of the very competitive programs. They accept only 6 students each year. Out of those 6 students 2 students get scholarships. She is one of those two.❤️🙏
I hope she finds amazing friends, joy, and unforgettable experiences in this next chapter — this once-in-a-lifetime stage of growth and discovery.
We’re celebrating today with lunch at one of her favorite restaurants, and then heading straight into a well-deserved vacation for the long holiday weekend. This isn’t just her graduation — it feels like mine, too. A graduation from one of the most meaningful chapters of my life as a parent.
I may not have done everything I dreamed of doing for her, but she made sure I graduated with distinction.
I am overwhelmed with pride and gratitude.
