Hey happy 4th! Just wanted to share a quick glimpse into our life of finding things a good home: About 3 years ago, we cleaned out a house and got permission to take down this awesome 1960’s lucite chandelier. I saw that similar fixtures could sell for as much as $1,000 so I put it up on eBay and waited… three years later my best and only offer was $300 and I was happy to get it off my shelf and after 90 minutes of removing and carefully packing all the ribbons it was out the door and I was glad to see it go. So while it was free, I essentially just got paid to store it for 3 years but it’s all good haha. Hey just wanted to share a personal memory of a dealer / friend Jim who passed away a couple years ago. We visited his wife Mary today and their house is packed to the ceiling with stuff so we rescued what we could. I got this tin can man Jim made cuz it spoke to me and not many people do crafts like this anymore so here’s your next DIY project with the kids haha

I was helping a friend move today and he rented a Pod and I’m not endorsing them or anything but it was pretty interesting to see one guy move this 15x8 container on a giant gas powered cradle into position like it was nothing. And the hammock itself was an engineering marvel lol. On a related topic, most people who put stuff in storage would be better off just downsizing and buying new stuff when they’re ready. Everyone I talk to has spent thousands of dollars storing stuff that’s worth a fraction of the fees and it’s not even sentimental items, just basic stuff!

Out on the job today rescuing antiques and collectibles as usual. Half of this stuff will never sell but sometimes I just take the good with the bad and hope I can share a few memories with someone. I’m just cleaning up and found this old coupon and you’ll notice the expiration date is 1989. I wasn’t lucky enough to see ET in the theater in 1982 and in the old days, it was YEARS later when a movie was available on VHS, so long that most people had FORGOTTEN about it which was my case so this triggered a memory of a memory lol.
