I have been sewing and quilting for decades. The one memory that stands apart is of my Mom and her sewing machines. I remember that she used her Mom’s vintage Singer treadle sewing machine. I still recall the treadle clacking as she sewed. She was a true sewist, pattern designer and sustainable resourcer of whatever materials were available. This time of year is absolutely the best time for me to enjoy almost anything. Walking, gardening, shopping at the Garden centers are just a few activities that really make my day! I have an 8 year old Granddaughter and we visit and talk everyday, afterall she is my next door neighbor. She has grown to like a lot of the things that make my world go ‘round! We both enjoy baking, gardening, movies, shopping and the list goes on and on. Above all, we love to sew. This has been a memorable week. I worked on several quilty projects. Monday was the start with the release of week four of Halloween mystery quilt. This is the center block and it looks like it is the center of attention. The block is simple but presents with vibrant and playful colors of Halloween. I love when Thursday rolls around. The three things for today are in order of what happens now; Gloriana, quilts and groceries. Gloriana is my granddaughter and she is walking towards her 9th birthday in September. She’ll be a 3rd grader when school starts next month. Yes, next month! August 14 will be her first day back to school. It’s an occasion for all of us....

Every quilt has to start with some idea or a pattern, sometimes improvised by the quilter. Fabric selection is the “paint” that makes the quilt tell it’s story.
