Let me introduce myself!
Now that my baby dream is really and truly happening (TLDR; update on storefront status shared at the end), I thought I should take some time and really hit you with a lore drop!
Currently, Prose and Pints is one person.
My name is Leigh Ross. I am a wife, mom (humans and pets), and hobby enthusiast (I am a Dungeon Master, do Diamond Art Paintings, and am working on a Kanto Region Pokemon Binder in the Michi Style, to name a few). I am an introvert with extroverted dreams and am either not a talker or talk too much!
I have been an avid reader since I learned how to read (seriously, the only thing I remember from Kindergarten was how jealous I was of a fellow classmate who could read already) and I wrote my first "chapter book" when I was seven about a cat family in a WW2 era where the little kitten that had to save her dad from the enemey cats (I was really into Fievel Goes West).
I would hide my current reads in textbooks so I could read at school and walk home holding the book right up to my face. My idea of an outdoor activity was to take my book outside. I remember when Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix came out, my family had a pool day planned, but I was almost finished with the book, so I took a chair, dragged it under a tree, and just sobbed in a dry swimsuit while reading about Sirius.
Reading time slowly diminished as I became an adult, got married, and had kids, but my dreaming time never took a break. Doodles of floor plans and mock schedules became routine shortly after I moved to Texas and visited Book People for the first time.
Life is full of twists and turns, both expected and unexpected, and dreams don't always turn into plans.
It took 15 years after I first started doodling a store of my own to get to where I am today, with a dream becoming a plan and the plan moving into action.
I am so happy that, even after remarrying and raising a blended family of five kids and three pets, the support I have from my partner has given me the chance to turn a dream into a plan and a reality.
STOREFRONT STATUS:
I signed a lease on a storefront in January 2026, hired a contractor and architect who took my ideas and made a floor plan that brings an excitement I can't articulate very well at all.
This last week (the start of June), the contractor began the interior build-out with HVAC and the essential but visually boring parts. I can't wait to share updates as more happens and walls, equipment, and furniture move into the space.
We are currently on track to have a soft opening in late September or early October, with a planned Grand Opening closer to Halloween.
I will update and share all big events. I, Leigh, do not use social media much for posting, but I am trying to get better at sharing more often. That and/or find someone who can help manage that (let me know if you or someone you know wants to do a little side hustle!).
PROSE AND PINTS:
We are a small space with a strong focus on small, local, and indie artists, creators, and authors. I will have books and mass-produced items (yes, ACOTAR and DDC —I see you and I love you), but I want to be a spot for the community here to gather, explore new reads and hobbies, all while enjoying a drink in a small, intimate atmosphere.
Book clubs, DND nights, Trading card events, poetry performances, board games, and crafting clubs are all anticipated to fill our calendar.
I want to be the space where people who have 'never done the thing (for whatever reason), but wanted to try and don't know where to start' can come and find that starting point!
Where friends and memories can be made, good drinks enjoyed, and some fun novelty finds purchased.
To end this wild ramble, I just want to say thank you, reader, for joining me on this, as just reading this post has made part of the dream a reality. I am excited to grow, expand, and get the storefront open!
