Like many other fans, my relationship with Harry Potter became complicated when She Who Shall Not Be Named showed her true face. I was a mignight release kid... showing up to bookstore and movie theater with cape and wand in hand for every release. I was a fan fiction kid... no, for real, it's still up and, no - I will not tell you my penname (hush you, if you know it! π)... I have Harry Potter ink, Harry Potter themed mommy and me photos.... Harry Potter swag coming out my ears....
All this to say, I've hardly touched it since Lady Voldemort appeared. I can't see it the same way as I once did, which makes me mad... and determined to do something about it. I'm taking Harry Potter back now. I'm reclaiming it in the only way that makes sense to me. From now on, anything purchased through me will have the profits donated to - a local youth LGBTQ+ nonprofit here in the valley. I'm only keeping the cost of materials, and that's just so I can keep doing it.
Admittedly, I haven't made much Harry Potter given the above aforementioned reasons. But I am sitting on a ton of fabric prints for it, and I'm excited to put it all to good use for the LGBTQIA+ community. Being an independent artist means she's already never seen a dime of anything Harry Potter I made... but now every dime I make will go to those who deserve it most.
And to be clear... this isn't just for Pride. This is indefinite, and I plan to add more Allyship themed bags going forward.
