Hot take... literally. ☀️😄

When it's 100°F outside, I'm not reaching for my fanciest bra.

I'm reaching for my Momiji Wireless Bra.

It's supportive, wonderfully breathable, and comfortable enough that I almost forget I'm wearing it... which is exactly what I want on a scorching summer day.

Sometimes the best bra is simply the one that lets you get on with your day.

My middle school algebra students used to hate one phrase.

"Show your work." 😄

Fast forward a few years....and it turns out I ended up taking my own advice.

When we started developing our clothing patterns, I already had a size chart I felt good about.

Could I have launched with it?
Probably.

Would I have slept well?
Probably not.

So we collected 348 measurements from our community. Not because I expected the data to magically produce the "perfect" size chart. But because I wanted to know whether we were headed in the right direction.

The answer?
We were.

The final size chart wasn't identical.

We refined proportions.
We adjusted the grading.
We made changes where the data told us to.

But the biggest takeaway wasn't that everything changed. It was that our original approach held up remarkably well. That didn't prove we'd created the perfect size chart. It gave me confidence that we were asking the right questions from the beginning.

And honestly...I think that's exactly what "show your work" is all about.

Pattern making is full of decisions.
Some come from experience.
Some come from testing.

And the best ones come from letting those two work together.

When we started developing these patterns, I already had a direction I believed in. But before asking anyone else to trust that work, I wanted to challenge it with real data from the people we were designing for.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to share their measurements. Every single one helped us refine, validate, and strengthen what we've been building.

Designing for curves isn't about guessing.
It's about listening.💛

One of my favorite moments from our workshop was seeing this bra come together. 💛

Every workshop is a little different.

Different goals.
Different questions.
Different fit challenges.

One thing they all have in common? A room full of curious people who love learning.

This particular project came from an experienced bra maker who wanted to keep refining her fit and explore a few new ideas. Over two days, we experimented, made adjustments, and watched everything come together beautifully.

Those moments—when a new technique clicks or a fitting puzzle finally makes sense—are one of my favorite parts of teaching.

Ever size up to fit your bust... only to discover that everything else got bigger too? 🤔

For many sewists, choosing a pattern size based on bust, waist, and hip measurements works beautifully.

But when one measurement is significantly larger than the others, things can get a little more complicated.

Suddenly:

• The shoulders are too wide
• The neckline is larger than expected
• The armholes start taking up valuable real estate
• And there's enough extra fabric through the waist to make you question your life choices

One reason this happens is because garments hang from the shoulders—not the fullest part of the bust.

That's why many fitting methods start with the high bust measurement, then adjust the curves from there.

It's also one of the ideas that influenced the cup-sized sewing patterns we're currently developing.

Sometimes the best part of a workshop isn't what gets sewn. ❤️

The weekend brought together a wonderful group of bra makers—and a few stories that felt meant to be.

One attendee waited nearly two years for our schedules to align. Another discovered the workshop fit perfectly around a work trip the next day.

There were first-time longline converts, experiments with bra foam, fitting breakthroughs, lots of laughter, and plenty of "aha!" moments.

By the end of the weekend, beautiful bras had been made—but so had new confidence and new friendships.

Ever size up to fit your bust... and somehow everything got worse? 🤔

When one measurement is significantly larger than the others, sizing up can solve one problem while accidentally creating several more.

Suddenly the shoulders are too wide, the armholes are enormous, and there's enough extra fabric floating around to start a second project.

That's why many fitting methods start with the shoulders and high bust measurement first, then adjust the curves from there.

It's also one of the reasons we're so passionate about cup-sized sewing patterns.

Because fitting a fuller bust shouldn't automatically mean oversized everything else. 🙂

Some pattern designers use fit models.

Some pattern designers use dress forms.

And then there's whatever this is. 😄

The good news? The pattern survived.

The even better news? We're learning a lot about shaping, support, and how cup-sized patterns behave when pushed well outside the usual expectations.

Sometimes the best ideas start with:
"I wonder what would happen if..."

Some people plan their event outfits weeks in advance.

I started this one at 10pm the night before Frocktails 😅

Projector sewing helped speed through the cutting, but there was still plenty of sewing left to do. The pockets didn't make the cut, but the French seams and rolled hem absolutely stayed.

At 3am I finally called it a night, grabbed a few hours of beauty sleep, then got back to work at 9am to finish the last details before getting ready for the event.

The best part?

This dress is actually one of our upcoming Kickstarter patterns, so it got a very thorough real-world wear test while I was busy hosting Frocktails.

Would I recommend this approach?

Absolutely not.

Would I do it again?
..the evidence suggests yes
