Quite possibly one of the most famous stretches of scenic highway in all the country, Michigan’s Tunnel of Trees spans M-119 (Lake Shore Drive) beginning just north of Harbor Springs and extending 21 miles north to Cross Village. Snaking its way around the twists and turns of the Lake Michigan shoreline, the Tunnel of Trees offers travelers an unparalleled view of Lake Michigan from the bluff high above the pristine waters.

MDOT: "The road could be repaired this year". πŸ™πŸ½

A pair of washouts along the hilly, tree-lined state highway will require detours for months as MDOT works toward repairs.

Heartbroken in many ways. But many are asking if the road is entirely closed. NO. ⚠️

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Those traveling from the south (Harbor Springs) will anticipate a short (5-6 min) detour between Terpening and Stutsmanville Roads. Continuing on M-119 from Stutsmanville, the road is open through Good Hart until Island View Road.

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ If traveling from the north (Cross Village), you will use State and Island View Road to access 119 and then head south. Continue on 119 south through Good Hart to Stutsmanville where you will take a short (5-6 min) detour via Terpening, and then connect back to 119 heading south to Harbor Springs.

Travel safely as always! πŸ™ŒπŸ½

We are very saddened to report that an area of Tunnel of Trees M-119 has collapsed due to excessive rain fall combined with snow melt (just south of Division between Cross Village and Good Hart). This comes after a partial shut down of the road earlier in the week south of Stutsmanville, also due to spring erosion. Our thoughts are with friends in Pellston and Cheboygan who are far facing worse situations. πŸ™πŸ½
