Interesting.

France just banned ultra fast fashion ads, and influencers are banned from promoting it too. The law was passed in July 2026, with the advertising and influencer rules taking effect on January 1, 2027. Influencers who promote qualifying ultra fast fashion products or brands could face fines of up to €100,000.

And France isn’t waiting until 2027 to start putting pressure on the industry. Since September 1, 2026, qualifying ultra fast fashion products can face an environmental penalty of up to 50 percent of their price, capped at €12 per item this year. That cap is set to rise to €19.50 by 2030.

The law targets a business model built around putting huge numbers of new products on sale while giving shoppers little reason to repair them. Online sellers covered by the rules will also have to display messages about things such as reuse, repair, recycling, and the social and environmental impact of what they sell.

For a country so closely associated with fashion, this is quite a move. I’m curious to see whether it changes what ends up in people’s shopping baskets or simply changes how these clothes are marketed. Would you like to see similar rules where you live?
