✨Product Highlight✨

Today we are highlighting our five panel hat. We chose to work with Topiko because of the incredible things they do for the environment. To make every hat they use recycled buckets from landfills and repurpose them to make the brims on the hats. They also use leather scraps from local businesses for the leather patches and the fabric for the hats comes from upcycled material waste from garment manufacturers. When you buy a Gales of November hat not only are you supporting the conversation of water in the Great Lakes, you are also supporting Topiku’s mission to make a cleaner world through circular supply chains.

Fall has officially arrived, you know what that means?? Our fall launch will be coming soon!

WATER WEDNESDAY:

The last time Lake Superior was completely frozen over was over 50 years ago in 1967 (though it got close in 2014). It rarely fully freezes over!

WATER WEDNESDAY:

Lake Superior is supplied by over 200 different waterways, with the largest being the Nipigon River in Canada and the St. Louis River in the US! Most of this water flows out through the St. Mary’s River into Lake Huron.

It takes almost 200 years for the water in Lake Superior to replace itself. This is by far the largest out of the Great Lakes, with Lake Erie coming in last being able to replace all of its water in only two years!

Through our membership with 1% of the Planet, we are pledging to donate a portion of all sales made throughout the duration of our first drop towards St. Louis River Alliance.

St. Louis River Alliance is a non-profit headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota right on Lake Superior and the St. Louis River. Through their mission of protecting, restoring, and enhancing the river, they have completed many projects throughout the years that create an immeasurable difference in the environment of the area surrounding the river.

One of these projects that is currently on-going is the Piping Plover project. On June 26th, members from St Louis River Alliance and the Wisconsin DNR were out planting native dune grass plugs along the shoreline. This dune grass will help strengthen the shoreline as well as enhance the forage area of the Piping Plover.

Piping Plover are extremely rare shorebirds in the Great Lakes and are listed as critically endangered. The St. Louis River Alliance is working with state and federal agencies to create favorable habitat for nesting Piping Plovers on Minnesota and Wisconsin Point beaches. Please join us in our effor
