My newest pair of earrings I’ve made (available on Etsy now). Since I’ve been gone I have gotten a lot of practice and gained more knowledge in how to increase the quality and materials of my earrings. One of the things I have changed is that from here forward all of the metal components are 18k gold plated. Before I was not using plated gold (which is very common in most polymer clay artists). This ensures that they will last even longer and be resistant to tarnishing. Another change is when you see me post a pair of earrings that are shiny, it is no longer UV resin. I am now using a clear polymer clay liquid to varnish my earrings. While UV resin is beautiful, it’s very messy, tends to have air-bubbles and is very easy to make mistakes. Most importantly UV-resin is very toxic when un-cured. So while the product you receive is completely safe because it is cured, it is not for me because I am working with it before it is cured. Even with proper ventilation and a respirator, I was still getting extreme headaches and I didn’t want it be in the air for my family and dog to breathe in. Another benefit of the liquid polyclay is that when it’s “cured” the earring remains flexible, unlike resin which makes them rock hard. Flexibility is earrings is better so they are not prone to snapping if you accidentally step on them, put them in your purse, and etc. I’m excited to continue creating and share new earrings with you! 😄
