KCAD Spring 2023 Fashion Show

The concept behind 'RE: Models' is to regard the human form as a canvas onto which fashion we project the future of fashion.

We can't wait to see you April 18, 2023, @ 7:30pm, at The Pamella Roland DeVos School of Fashion at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) Gala and Fashion Exhibition hosted at the Grand Rapids Public Museum! As emerging designers, we reimagine, rebel, and react to fashion as a history, an art, and a way of human expression.

Meet our team!
Last but not least we have our director, Alessandra Taranta. Alessandra’s favorite food is ribs. In her free time she loves working out and spending time with family and friends.

Meet our Team!
Will Chatlosh is the production manager for this year’s show. Will loves fiber art and drawing outside of school. Will also love connecting with the Grand Rapids community & his favorite part of fashion is the actual process of constructing garments.

“I have always been a maker, and KCAD’s fashion program allows me to do just that! It has been incredible to gain a wide range of knowledge throughout building, ideating, and focusing on so many different regions of the fashion industry… including producing a fashion show!” -Will Chatlosh

Meet our Team!

Lori A. Faulkner is Associate Professor and Fashion Studies Chair at Kendall College of Art & Design and the Ferris State University 2020 Distinguished Teacher Award Winner. She was the 2021 FSU nominee for the Distinguished Professor of the Year Award from the Michigan Association of State Universities. She wrote the curriculum for the Fashion Studies Program at KCAD based on her years working in the fashion industry and teaching /writing curriculum for Michigan State University. In addition to teaching, Lori serves as a member of the President’s Council, Dean’s Academic Council, Academic Senate and Visiting Artist Committee at KCAD and on the Collections and Cocktails Committee for the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Her interests include creating collaborative projects for her students with the Grand Rapids Ballet, Opera GR, Spectrum Health, DisART, Crowned Free and the Grand Rapids Film Festival. She likes to travel with her students to research fashion around the world including New York, LA, London, Paris, Hong Kong, China and Australia. Her work has recently been featured in KCAD Alluvium Gallery, Unique Models Gala and is currently on display in the Grand Rapids Public Museum's Fashion and Nature Exhibit through May 2024.

Meet our team!
Mali Borisch does this year's PR work and is one of our graphic designers. Mali's favorite thing is sugar, and outside of school she enjoys seeing family, picking up new creative/learning projects, and playing rugby.

"I love learning about sustainable materials, in fashion and building, and have enjoyed the fashion program's emphasis on sustainability. Our KCAD program looks into many pieces of the fashion industry, and it is so exciting to see that come together in the work for this year's fashion show!"-Mali Jean Borisch

Meet our team!
Arienne Stoye is our stage manager in this year's fashion show! Some things to know about Arienne are that she loves music, so it's a good thing she gets to make our playlists, and her favorite musician is Alex G. She also loves vegetarian cooking, spending time with friends, and her favorite movie is Princess Mononoke.

"One thing I really love about the fashion program at KCAD is how hands-on it is. You really get a lot of attention from the professors, which gives you a lot of opportunities to learn and grow. I also love the incorporation of sustainability/responsibility in the program! We are really challenged to think outside the box and help change the way that the toxic fashion industry operates." -Arienne Stoye

Meet our team!
Avery Compton is one of our two Merchandise Coordinators. So far her favorite class at KCAD has been Sustainable Fashion. In her free time- Avery likes to play volleyball and has started learning how to do tapestry weaving.

"I think there are a lot of exciting parts of fashion, but I especially love learning about fashion history and how we have pushed it to change with new ideas and technology. Personally, that is a big inspiration behind the theme of this year's show RE: Models." -Avery Compton

Elizabeth Ojeda is one one of the Merchandise Coordinators for the fashion show this year. Some fun facts about Liz: She loves playing soccer, just started learning how to crochet, and her favorite designer is Iris Van Herpen.

“The great thing about the fashion studies program is that it takes students through the entire process of fashion design. From teaching you how to sew, and becoming a sustainable designer, to making connections and finding your own style. “ -Elizabeth Ojeda

Emma Benson is a junior in the fashion studies program, and is one of the model coordinators this year for the fashion show. Some fun facts about Emma are that: she loves cats a lot, playing stardew valley with her friends, and her favorite drink is chocolate milk.
