We couldn't have said it better--Happy Thanksgiving to all; we hope you all had a great time! Let us carry this heart into the rest of the holiday season. Blessings!

Father Greg's Thanksgiving Greeting:

The Peruvian theologian, Gustavo Gutierrez, believed that only one kind of person transforms the world: the one with the grateful heart. All of us, not just homies at Homeboy Industries, seek a relational wholeness anchored in grateful living. We want to bask in what we have. Lament, however, can crowd the room for us. But it is a daily tenet at Homeboy that lament can’t get a foothold, if gratitude gets there first.

A homie, quite proud of his personal transformation, once said to me, “You see, G, I’m like an oyster. All this crap and dirt and sand gets in here”—patting his chest---“but it’s just toughened me and protected me. Now look what I got. I got me a pearl”—he gently held his hand to his heart—“right here.”

In this time of gratitude and the gathering of family, I wish you all a moment to “gently pat your chest,” fully cognizant of what you have. For our part, we are deeply grateful for your steadfast support of our efforts here at Homeboy. Every one of you…a “pearl.” May this upcoming season find us all anchored in grateful living. Together, let’s transform the world.

Being an entrepreneur sometimes takes a lot of crazy hours and headaches--but man, is it worth it. The vision of being a neighborhood-centric business that is operating at the crossroads of the marketplace and community development is what keeps me moving everyday.

Hey there neighbors! Are you signed up on Nextdoor.com? It's a great online place to be connected to to hear what your neighbors are talking about!

Why does this matter? Well, I remember watching my dad as a young boy befriending his neighbors, know the postman, cultivate friendships with our corner convenience store owner and those who worked at our favorite neighborhood restaurant that we went to Saturday mornings--and that's a value I carry with me today, know and be friends with your neighbors.

So I'm putting myself out there to be known and to know those who live around me and do business around me, because this is the community that I'm being called to serve and I love it. :)
