Meet Eagle. πŸ¦… She's a brass-headed cane I fell in love with during a photoshoot years ago and I saved her because some things are too remarkable to walk away from. This week, she walks me back into the world.

I am not great at rest. These past weeks in bed have been necessary, humbling, and hard. My body (and family) said not yet. I'm listening.
But while I was resting, something more special was happening.

You know when you build something with your whole heart, and then you have to step back and trust it to others? I stepped back. And they didn't blink. Not once.

Our entire team, staff and board showed up in ways I couldn't have scripted. They run the classes and meetings. They cared for the children and their families. They represented us at events on my behalf. They didnt waited to be asked to continue moving forward. They just did.

They showed up for the kids, for the mission, for each other! All while I was resting. They held the fort with the kind of quiet excellence that doesn't ask for applause.

I am thankful. I am honored. And I cannot wait to see them this week. I can not wait to walk through our studio door. Eagle in hand. Back to my people (even if for just a few hours to start). πŸ–€

Fashion is our medium. Transformation is the mission.

She wasn't the birthday girl. She was a guest. And she still got to decide what she made. πŸΎβœ‚οΈ

At a Columbus Fashion Academy birthday party, every guest gets to choose their own project. This 8-year-old knew exactly what she wanted: a cozy double-faced blanket for her dog.

No kit. No template. Her idea, her cuts, her sewing, her finish.

πŸŽ‚ This is what a CFA birthday party looks like.

The birthday kid picks the vibe, the music. Every guest decides what they want to make. Our instructor guides everyone through β€” in a real studio, with real materials β€” and every single child walks out with something they actually created.

No plastic goodie bags. No plastic toys. Just kids making things they're proud of.

βœ‚οΈ Fashion Design
πŸ‘œ Bags & accessories
🐾 Pet accessories (clearly a favorite)
🎭 Puppets & Dolls
πŸ–ŒοΈ Textile art & surface design

Every guest. Their own idea. Their own hands. Their own creation.

She's not finished yet.

But she will be.

1217 Grandview Avenue is becoming Dear Garment House, a small house with a grande purpose.

A place where a child learns that what she imagines is worth building.

I have moved more than 30 times in my life.

My mom's favorite hobby in Brazil was finding a new house, we moved almost every year. Then I moved cities. Then countries. I have packed entire studios into a single car with a system built from decades of practice. I know how to move.

This September's move to Dear Garment House was going to be no different.
Except that now it's. I had emergency surgery this week. And now, I can't.

I've made peace with it. I think some things slow you down just enough to let others show up.

Dear Garment House is where the next generation of Columbus fashion artists will learn that what they imagine is worth building. It opens in October. With or without me carrying the boxes, I'd love for you to be part of the reason it happens on time. We are not stopping serving these kids!

Two ways to pitch in:

🏑 Your precious time: packing days and moving days in September. Real roles, real slots.

🧡 Your financial support: donate toward additional professional movers so we make the deadline.

DM me. I'll respond personally and match you to the right role and date.

We just need a little help carrying the boxes and the dreams. 🀍

Dear Teen who's been scrolling for two hours,

What if instead, you made something?

This look stopped the crowd at Columbus Fashion Academy Summer Show. It started as a pair of denim pants, a leftover bustier, deadstock fabric scraps, and one teenager with a vision.

She found the denim herself. Chose the color by feel. Cut the pants into a mini skirt. Layered three shades of blue from deadstock and scraps. Took a bustier from a formal dress, cut it, altered the fit, added grommets and ribbon back, and covered it in blue until the whole look spoke one language. Then came the tulle β€” low in front, long in the back β€” because she understood how fabric moves, and she wanted the runway to feel it.

It did. The crowd clapped all around.

This is what learning looks like at Columbus Fashion Academy. Not a kit. Not a template. A real design problem, real materials, real skills and a beautiful runway at the end .

Our Mini Incubator is open for enrollment this fall. Your kid will leave with a finished look, a creative process they own, and the kind of confidence that doesn't come from a screen.

Communication. Collaboration. Creative problem-solving. Presentation. All the things they need, wrapped in the most fun they've had in a long time.

Dear Shopper,

Here's what you might find when you walk through Dear Garment house's door: small curated areas of one-of-a-kind vintage pieces, handmade accessories designed by the young artists in our programs, and a sustainable collection of textiles, garments, and accessories made by our own team. Think jackets with decades behind them, jewelry that's been somewhere, upcycled pants, and one-of-a-kind bags β€” every piece fully designed by creatives in our fashion community.

Here's what you won't find: a single price tag that's just a number. Every piece is only one and it carries its own small story, because every piece deserves one.

And here's the part that makes shopping here different from shopping anywhere: what you spend funds a child's development by grabbing a seat at the sewing machine table, funds youth learning to lead through workforce development, funds intergenerational education, funds human connection and although we don't need much more, the impact goes even further beyond β€” the entire mission powered right here at Dear Garment House, and at our studio downtown Columbus (where our team cares for every garment and processes pieces we offer in The Archive as another fundraiser effort)

Beautiful things, funding brilliant futures.

Dear Garment house opens by appointment October 3rd. More info posting in our website throughout the month.

P.S. If you love wearing black, save a spot on your calendar for our Black Friday event. Just twenty guests, in forty-five-minute private appointments, exploring the most wonderful all-black curated selection we've ever assembled. Three pieces limit per person, chosen with intention β€” this isn't an event built for overconsumption, and it's not a cheap sale. It's something else entirely and we guarantee you have never seen anything like it. Booking opens soon on our website.

Dear Birthday Girl (or Boy, or however you're celebrating),

Most parties have balloons. Ours will also have sewing machines.

Dear Garment House will host private events and birthday parties β€” think design stations instead of goodie bags, a real make-and-take project, and a small photoshoot moment for the guest of honor. Ages 4 and up, and yes, grown-up celebrations too β€” we'll dream up something dear for those as well.

If your family already knows our Fashion Lab Days, imagine that energy with balloons.

Our birthday party page is live on the website now, with full details on booking. πŸŽ‚

Dear Garment House opens to the public on Saturday October 3rd, by appointment only.
