It took me a very long time to appreciate the importance of energetic containment.⁣

I started this path with so many practices that brought me out of the body or dissociated me from the present moment - whether it was astral projection or manifesting techniques that weren’t fully formed and focused on bypassing.⁣

It’s not always the case but it was apparent for me that many of these practices (without the right awareness) often just create more imbalance, if you aren’t connected to your physical body first.⁣

This tendency to always look for a way ‘out’ also manifested emotionally, where my energy went all over the place. I didn’t know what boundaries were. I would latch onto the idea of a relationship without actually connecting.⁣

As I have been learning to consciously bring my energy back to the body and to remain present, it’s actually easier to extend my energy outwards when necessary.⁣

You can help others without getting your ego tangled up in trying to save or fix them.⁣

You can consciously enter relationships while continuing to tend to your own foundation. You can look to the future without endlessly fixating there.⁣

When your energy is contained you have more to give and less to project onto others.⁣

And it can start with a simple prayer or affirmation, ‘I call my energy back to my body’.⁣

RECIPE: Kitchen Spices Cough Syrup 🌱

This recipe can be made as-is, but thyme also combines well with demulcent herbs, such as licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) root (not to be used for individuals with high blood pressure), fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) seed, plantain (Plantago spp.) leaf, or violet (Viola spp.) aerial parts, for a dry cough. Simply replace half of the thyme in this recipe with your choice of demulcent herbs.

⅓ cup dried or ½ cup fresh thyme (Thymus vulgaris) aerial parts

⅛ cup anise (Pimpinella anisum), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), or cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) seed

1 cup (8 fl oz) water

½-2 cups (6-25 oz) raw honey (Note: this syrup should not be given to children under 1 year of age.) 🍃

Directions:

Bring water to a boil.
Place herbs in a small saucepan.
Prepare a concentrated herbal infusion: pour 1 cup of just-off-the-boil water over dried herbs. Steep for 20-40 minutes, covered.
Strain infusion and return liquid to the saucepan.
Add ½ to 2 cups of raw honey. If made with ½ cup of honey, the syrup will have a shelf life of 3 weeks, refrigerated; if made with 2 cups of honey, the syrup will have a shelf life of 1 year, refrigerated.

Warm mixture just slightly to enable the liquid and sweetener to mix. Avoid heating above 110 degrees F.
Transfer syrup to a sanitized bottle or jar (ideally, a dark-colored jar to protect from light exposure) using a sanitized funnel and cap tightly.
Label and store in the refrigerator.
Take 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon as needed.

Take good care of yourselves, friends! 💛🌼

Herbs to support mild anxiety

Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia, with one in four people having suffered from the condition.[1]

Most people have had the experience of anxiety, which often presents initially as an acute set of symptoms, such as a racing heart, restlessness, feeling tense and edgy, or catastrophic thinking.[1]

There are many herbal options that may help to bring about a relaxing effect and may help to reduce tension, both physical and mental.

🌿 Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) – a relaxing herb that reduces tension in the nervous system as well as the gastrointestinal tract. This may be helpful for those who often experience nervous diarrhoea or ‘butterflies in the stomach’.[2] It is also a mild sedative herb.

🌿 Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) – ever get those thoughts that go round and round in your mind, especially when you’re trying to get to sleep? Passionflower may help as it calms the mind, relaxes nervous tension and is a mild sedative to induce sleep.[2]

🌿 Kava (Piper methysticum) – a native to the Pacific region, kava is used in social ceremonies and gatherings, promotes a state of calm and relaxes muscles. A good option for social anxiety and also for insomnia, it is a relaxing and mildly sedative herb.[2]

🌿 Lavender (Lavandula officinalis) – Lavender with its floral scent, elicits a pleasant calming and mood-lifting effect. It is helpful for tension headaches, anxiety and tension in the digestive system which may lead to intestinal colic.[2]

🌿 Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora)– a nourishing herb for restoring nervous system health. It has calming and fortifying effect on the nervous system, especially for those people who are excitable and irritable when confronted with nervous tension.[2]

RECIPE: Pain-be-Gone Valerian Cordial with Willow

This recipe yields approximately 1.5 ounces, so you will need to use a 2-ounce glass bottle for storage. The kind of vanilla extract used for baking is perfectly fine to use as long as the bottle states that it is 100% pure vanilla extract, or you can make your own. Yield: 1.5 ounces.

Ingredients
6 teaspoons white willow (Salix alba) tincture
2 teaspoons valerian (Valeriana officinalis) tincture
1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) extract (to taste)
1/2 teaspoon maple syrup

Directions
- Combine herbal extracts, maple syrup, and vanilla extract in an amber glass bottle.
- Cap the bottle and shake gently to combine.
- Clearly label your bottle and store in a cool, dark space.
- Use up to 30 drops (or ¼ teaspoon, which is approximately 25 drops) as desired, up to 6x/day. This formula is for short term use only.
