When You Don't Know Where It Goes, Think P.O.P.

We’ve all experienced the inevitable organizational collapse. You dedicate a quiet Saturday morning to sorting clutter, mapping drawers, labeling matching containers, and feeling like an absolute domestic champion.

Yet, within ten days, the kitchen table is swallowed by paperwork, charging cables are tangled on the vanity, and your mail lies strewn across the entry table. Why did a beautiful layout fail so fast?

The answer is simple: we place storage where it's "supposed to go" but completely ignore where we actually use/need it. When you are looking for a system that maintains itself, remember one simple rule: Think P.O.P. (Point of Performance).

What is a Point of Performance?

The Point of Performance is the exact place you complete a task. Storing items with P.O.P. means grouping and placing tools exactly where their work is done. It requires matching your environment directly to your lazy habits rather than trying to change your behavior to match what you've been told is correct.

If retrieving or returning an object takes more than two seconds, it will ultimately find a home on your counters.

Design systems for your lowest-energy days.

P.O.P. in Action: Everyday Examples

The Coffee Station: Avoid placing coffee pods in the pantry, spoons in a drawer across the room, and mugs in the cabinet across the room. Instead, group them inside a single tray right next to the espresso maker, and use the cabinet above the coffeemaker. Brewing becomes a localized routine.

The Hamper Hack: Hook your stain-remover spray bottle directly onto your bedroom hamper. You spray as you strip.

The Mail Launchpad: If paper clutter piles up on the kitchen island, it's because that's where you open it. Place a small, attractive mail slot and a recycling bin directly inside the entryway, so junk mail is discarded the literal second you walk in the door.

To design a P.O.P. layout, stop asking "where should this item live?" and start tracking your natural path. Where do your hands naturally let go of things? Where do tasks happen? Place a tray, a hook, or a basket at that exact spot, and watch your space stay clear effortl

Hi 👋🏻 I'm Kristin McElroy, owner of Righty Tidy. Here are something you might not know about me! 😉
1) I can’t go to office supply stores alone; I’ll end up buying everything!
2) Yes, I love a good label maker. No, I will not apologize for it.
3) I will watch the same shows and movies on a loop rather than risk something new. It’s a vibe.
4) I talk to inanimate objects.
5) I’m a recovering perfectionist who believes "done" is better than "perfect," and I extend that grace to my clients.
6) When I don’t know what to eat I eat a peanut butter sandwich
7) Sometimes my clean laundry stays in the hamper for a week. 🤫
8) My house isn't always "Instagram ready." But my systems are solid, which means I can get it back to "guest-ready" in 10 minutes flat.

I'd love to chance to get to know you as well. Drop a comment if you resonated with any of these. Or click the link in bio to schedule a free in person assessment today so we can work together to conquer your clutter!

Current status: Popsicles. Future status: Prepared. ☀️🎒

Enjoy the lazy June mornings while they last—but let’s be real for a second. The annual 6:30 AM military operation is looming, and "hunting for a missing shoe at 7:15 AM" shouldn't be an official school sport this year.

Before the entryway gets buried under lunchboxes and permission slips, let’s design a morning launchpad that actually works. You keep your feet in the pool, and I’ll handle the systems.

The July Early-Bird Special:
Get 15% off a School Morning Reset when you lock in your session for July. We will get your routines, drop-zones, and launchpads dialed in before the August panic sets in.

The catch: This discount expires on July 4th.

Do Future You a massive favor. Click the link in my bio to claim your spot and coast into September without the usual screaming matches.
